What’s the craziest or most outrageous (maybe even NSFW) incident that led to someone being fired from your workplace?
  • An IT company I worked for many years ago went through a massive growing phase. One of the things that lead to this growth was the hiring of much more competent management, particularly in security and the data center.

Security actually started doing their jobs and started routinely doing network scans. They discovered two servers that were not located in the data center, which was a huge no no. The servers were running two porn websites off the company's internet connection. The guy had been doing it for years and apparently was making many times his company salary from them.

  • OceanGate’s submarine relied on ‘idiotic’ Excel spreadsheet
  • Agreed, not sure why everyone focuses on the game controller, when the hull was never certified in the first place. The viewport was only certified to 1000 meters, or something like that. The controller was the least of the issues.

The whole, we don't need to follow safety regulations because submersibles don't implode, mentality is utterly bizarre. It's like the people of Oceangate had no concept of causation and correlation. Or that CEO just had a suicide wish.

  • What movie have you rewatched the most?
  • All of these movies my family sits down and watches at least once a year:

Harry Potter series.. All of them.

    LoTR/ Hobbit.. All of them.

    Paul

    Strictly Ballroom

    Princess Bride

    Music Man 1962 version

Court Jester 1955 with Danny Kaye

  • What inappropriate sounding names can you come up with ?
  • In a surprise announcement the German airline Air Lingus announced they are merging with Connie Kalitta's freight line Kalitta Air.

The new passenger/ freight line's new name is:

    Connie Lingus

The new airline's tag line? "We go out of our way to lick the competition."

  • What is your favourite breakfast food?
  • Bacon

    Bacon and eggs

    Bacon and pancakes

    Bacon and French Toast

    Bacon and waffles

    Bacon and toast

Bacon and Omelette (especially if the omelette has bacon in it.)

    Bacon and Bacon

If I had been a member of Monty Python, we would be calling email spam... Bacon today.

  • When is the last time you witnessed a real life situation where you were like "Wait, what? No."
  • This goes back over 30 years. Was at a bar with friends after our volleyball league. The bar had two levels, with the second basically a large balcony that over looked the lower floor. We were on the upper level and arranged where I could easily see the tables on the first floor.

A couple caught my attention, as I was people watching and it looked like there was some tension between the two. The woman got up to go the restroom, just as their drinks were being delivered. As soon as she was out of sight the guy put something in her drink. I immediately got up and headed for the restrooms and waited for her to come out. Fortunately, the restrooms were out of direct site of their table.

When she came out I approached her and of course I received the standard; "I have a boyfriend." I told her I didn't care about that, but that I witnessed her "boyfriend" putting something in her drink. Then handed her $10 to buy a replacement on me and told her she needed to buy a new drink and not let it out of her sight and that I would not approach her again. I went back to my table.

About 10 minutes later she showed up at my table, handed me my $10 back and told me I probably saved her life. The guy she was with was a new boyfriend and she had been getting bad vibes about him. She pretended to take a sip of her drink, then handed it to her "boyfriend" for him to try it as it was "sooo goood." He flew into a rage, the got into an argument and he left her at the bar. He was driving. I offered her a ride home. No, I didn't stay with her, two other people were riding with me that I also had to take home.

She and I did become good friends. She asked me out and we dated a few times, but it was pretty obvious to both of us that it would never work. We stayed friends though and she did meet her husband in my friend group. They got married had a couple of kids, whom I was an official Uncle to. Both their kids are now married and have their own kids (yes, I'm old).

The old "boyfriend" never showed his face again. So I have no idea what happened to him, if anything.

  • Aloha Airlines Flight 243
  • I have flown into OGG twice. First time was on my honeymoon back in 2005, the second was two weeks ago. My wife and I brought our two teen boys on a family vacation.

Both times, my first thought after landing was that accident flight. Got to wonder what the crew and passengers were feeling. I also hoped that CB never actually knew what happened to her. Personally, I think it is very doubtful she felt anything, but will never know for sure.

  • Aloha Airlines Flight 243
  • I doubt C.B. was alive after she was thrown out of the plane. At the very least she was not conscious. The decompression also happened very quickly, so if she felt anything, it was only for a moment. A halo of blood with the shape of a head can be seen on the side of the aircraft. It is believed that is when she died or at the very least knocked unconscious. The force needed to cause that pattern of blood splatter is immense.

  • Was it my imagination that most people believed in a 9/11 conspiracy?
  • I was 31 when the attacks happened.

While I do think that there was an awareness that an attack was possible, or even in the works. I sincerely doubt that anyone truly thought that 3 airplanes were going to be flown into buildings on that day and one crash in a PA field. The US had the attitude that we were isolated and well defended enough that such attacks were unthinkable. The complete one sidedness of Gulf War 1 really gave the US an out of proportion notion of being invulnerable. Even though the WTC was bombed 9 years prior, two years after the end of GW1.

Conspiracy denotes malicious intelligent intent. The reality is closer to stupidly complacent. Sometimes the two are hardly indistinguishable.

  • Delta flight clips another plane on taxiway at Atlanta airport, knocks off smaller plane's tail
  • Ooof... That looks EXpensive and not just for the CRJ. The larger plane (it looks like an A350, but not sure) is going to need its wing structure and wing box all thoroughly inspected. Outside of the engines, those are the two most expensive structures on an airplane. Not saying that it is going to be a write off for either plane, but it is a possibility. I'm curious if the bending moment of that impact was outside what the larger plane's wing box was designed for. That force had to be huge, given the length of the wings on the large plane.

I look forward to seeing the analysis from some of the better aviation Youtubers on this one.

  • Has anyone experienced a spinal disc bulge, hernia, and/or or stenosis/radiculopathy and how long did it take to recover?
  • I've not had any side effects from gaba, so haven't explored alternatives.

I did have the steroid shot procedure, but it had zero effect. Day to day my condition is manageable, I just won't be skydiving any longer. One hard opening and it could make my situation a lot worse and yes I am a former skydiver. So that's not really a joke.

  • What are your first principles (rules you've developed) in your life?
  • Never do anything permanent to my body, unless it is medically necessary.

People come in and out of life... Let them.

    Do not date at work.

Under absolutely no circumstance do I mess with people in relationships.

    Friends that are dating:
If they break up and I'm interested in her... I give one month per year of time, one month minimum, before I approach her. That helps prevent hurt feelings, it also prevents being the "rebound". Although, one time it cost me a possible relationship as she broke up with her fiancee' and immediately approached me. Unfortunately, she never came out an positively stated they were broken up and it caused quite a bit of awkwardness on my part. She ended up hating my guts, but honestly I probably just dodged a bullet.

Give yourself the respect you deserve. Corollary: Behave in a manner that you can respect.

There are more, but this is what I have time to type out right now.

  • Has anyone experienced a spinal disc bulge, hernia, and/or or stenosis/radiculopathy and how long did it take to recover?
  • 54M with a L4/L5 bulge here. Happened 4 years ago.

Been on 900mg Gabapentin ever since. The bulge is non-operable as it is not large enough. I know what you're thinking, if it's so small, what's my problem? The bulge is sitting perfectly on the nerve (sciatic?) going down my right leg. Ever since, my right leg has felt partially asleep and with out the gabapentin I get a lot of lower back pain.

I have a few other issues due to it as well. Using the full strength in my right leg results in painful cramps throughout the entire leg. I don't have the full control over the leg. Walking over rough ground can be interesting, because the leg isn't doing exactly what I tell it to do. It's not enough to stop me from doing things, but it can make hiking interesting at times.

Yes, I did physical therapy. Even to this day, I still do the exercises the therapist had me doing.

I'm about 15 pounds overweight, but I am active.

This is the way I'm going to be for the rest of my life, barring some procedure being developed that makes correcting a bulge like mine safe to correct.

  • Queen sucks
  • Oh lord, don't go and listen to AC/DC then.

Art is subjective, so there really are no wrong opinions, just disagreements. I strongly disagree with you, but that's OK. Fist bump bro, because it's different strokes that makes the world go round.

Now, if you say such things about RUSH.... cracks knuckles. ;-)

  • Music concerts should get quieter
  • Skydiving.

I have ~4500 jumps and jump planes are very loud. Even with a full face helmet, jump planes are very loud and I didn't use ear plugs until my last 1000 jumps or so.

I do have a fair amount of time shooting, but always used ear protection.

  • Music concerts should get quieter
  • Protect your hearing.

I did not and today, at the age of 54, I cannot hear above 13khz when I used to be able to hear above 20khz. Part of that is age, but most of it is from not using hearing protection at concerts and other activities where I should have been using it.

Any constant noise above 80db will damage your hearing. 80db is a LOT quieter than you think it is.

  • Me Too, I did it and I feel good.

Probably a lot of these posts coming, but here's mine.

Just deleted and exported all of my Reddit comments/posts and exported them (hey, I'm old and can experience bouts of nostalgia.) If Reddit as a company cannot respect their users, then a user I will no longer be. Normally such things don't bother me. For profit companies are always behave as scumbags. We're their product and if the product doesn't behave, then it gets put into its place. That is what I have been seeing the past couple of months.

What finally did it for me, to jump ship, as the way the Admins started treating the Mods. People that actually grew and put in the effort to grow the various subreddits. You know, the people that actually did the work to produce the product Reddit, as a company, is trying to sell. It is not surprising that Reddit's management is so clueless. They want to make money, but the product they are trying to sell... Was built by someone else... FOR FREE. The Reddit execs think they have tons of content advertisers would love, when all they really have is a platform, which OTHER PEOPLE built content on. Advertisers don't care about the platform, there are tons of those out there. The advertisers are only interested in the content that will draw people to look at their ads.

My prediction is that the Reddit IPO will be successful, but as a company it will outlast the IPO about 3 years.

Sometimes things are not about money and it astounds me the number of people that just don't understand that fact.
