The double sexism of ChatGPT’s flirty “Her” voice
  • I probably should say "IMO".

They played it on a local radio station here yesterday, and even they were mocking it as "not close".

  • The double sexism of ChatGPT’s flirty “Her” voice
  • I've listened to it, and it sounds nothing like Scarlett does. I had to find a movie with Scarlett in it to compare with, and I can honestly tell you ChatGPT sounds nothing like Natasha in Black Widow.

(Joke aside, ChatGPT doesn't sound like Scarlett at all).

  • I'm no html type code expert, but I do code a lot in other languages. I used f12 on a browser to look at what was going on, on the reddit sites and I have never seen such spaghetti code and layers upon layers of adjustments. I have no idea what they are using behind the scenes (php/js etc, again not my expertise) but it has to be an absolute shitshow.

On old old, and old new, I used to use an element picker in uBlock origin etc, to just remove all the bullshit that annoyed me. This actually sped things up! But its not perfect.

Oh this reminds me, if you are trying to get to new.reddit, for the old-new page, I had to delete all those elements as well, then goto new.reddit fresh and sign in. Then do the element pick again.

  • I get lags too. Interestingly (and not relevant to the topic) I can access reddit okay (but it has huge pause on initial load) on Windows with Chrome (or Opera), but reddit fails to load correctly when I am using Linux with Chromium. Tried other browsers too, reddit seems to not like Linux at all (well my install of Linux anyway). I can't even log in successfully.

  • Winamp is going open source, and it feels like the early 2000s again
  • https://about.winamp.com/press/article/winamp-open-source-code Click on the top right download button, to get the PDF explaining it.

It'd doesn't look like it will be open source as in github/gitlab open source. It looks like they are asking people to apply to work on it for free, as in source will be made available to those successful applicants. That will probably also mean NDA's etc.

Or, it will be put on github, but only pull requests Winamp wants will be pulled. But I doubt this, because there would be a ton of forks, and people would remove all shitfuckery (NFTs!).

They also mentioned they wanted to port it to all platforms, like Linux and fix the Android app so its more like actual PC winamp. This will be quite a task for something written to be purely windows. However the last release had them move the whole project from VS2008 to VS2019 in around 2022.

I guess we will find out in September.

  • Port forward to different IP based on destination address
  • You can do this with HAProxy already in opnsense. And yes you can route more than just HTTP. (when you are making the Backend rules, switch from Layer 7, to Layer 4. Only thing is that it will do TCP, but not UDP.

As you have posted, port forward cannot tell what the domain even is. (and the url alias is not used the way you are thinking).

  • Discord wants to void your right to sue them in court — but you can opt out of the practice
  • Came to say this. Here in the AU you cannot exclude certain things, this being one of them. They can write it all they like into the TOS, but cannot be enforced. There are many examples, but basically no TOS/Warranty/T&C can exclude or explicitly deny any rights you have or laws that protect you.

Similar to warranty here. Many companies like to put "limited liability" and 30 day warranty. But in AU, the warranty has to fall within our laws. (for example Samsung saying warranty on a $5000 TV is 2 years. Well in AU if the tv is that expensive, you have the right to claim warranty on manufacturing failure for at least 5 years.) Many items we buy here, have an "Australia only warranty amendment page" stuffed in the box!

  • WTF is up with switches?
  • I was networking AUI, before you were born, numb nuts.

  • WTF is up with switches?
  • Firstly Its not cat 3. I've never seen that in a telephony installation. Its 4 core flat ribbon or just 4 core. Neither are twisted. Secondly, with 2 "pairs" the best you can do is 100mb/s, as in 10MB/s. Thirdly an L3 Switch DOES use the L3 protocol stack - that is where ROUTING and the routing table happens. OSPF, EIGRP, RIPv2, IS-IS, BGP are all LAYER 3 protocols.

I think you need to go back to school.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Open_Shortest_Path_First

OSPF is a layer 3 protocol. If a layer 2 switch is between the two devices running OSPF, one side may negotiate a speed different from the other side. This can create an asymmetric routing on the link (Router 1 to Router 2 could cost '1' and the return path could cost '10'), which may lead to unintended consequences.

  • WTF is up with switches?
  • I've never seen ADSL (Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line) delivered over anything other than a phone line (Cat nothing, and usually RJ11 or RJ12 termination). That is what it was designed for.

Both a consumer router, and a L3 switch have a routing table in order to decide how each IP packet will be forwarded through the device. For that to work both a L3 switch and a Router support dynamic routing protocols such as OSPF, RIP etc, or statically configured routes.

The primary use case for a router is WAN connectivity, as I stated. For almost 99% of cases, including failover/redundancy, router connect the WAN network to the beginning of the internal network.

And yes, routers do operate at the same OSI layer, as I said, L3. If they didn't they could not have a routing table and decide how traffic is forwarded (remember routers still have multiple LAN ports, whilst unmanaged they still have the ability to decide what goes where.

A way of getting users to join here as well?

This is an open ended question, it seems we need to encourage people to join here as well as being on their preferred platform (which is not ours to discourage or be derogatory about).

I still frequent the "that site" because I want to help - but honestly I dont want to help "that site". Not that I am really doing so.

However, it feels weird if I do have to say "we are also on fede.. blah blah" and lets be honest about this -- its less support, but by more knowledgeable people (??probably I believe so).

How do we get them (and lets face it, Franco) over here to support OSS.

I know Franco has paid subscriptions but opnsense is OSS, the community is more than happy to help out if it is not paywalled.
