What is *love*?
  • I'm neurotypical but I will give my answer and maybe it will help. Love, like many things, is a subjective term, meaning different things to different people. You have to examine the broader context in which the term is being used to understand what the speaker means when they say love.

If you ask an Eskimo and a Jamaican what is "cold" and what is "hot", they're going to have very different answers. The same words mean different things to different people depending on the context and experience of those people.

When talking about mundane things like pancakes, love is used to mean like very much. If pancakes are your favorite food, you could say you love pancakes because you like them much more than other foods you also like.

But in the context of the show you're talking about, the boyfriend is talking about romantic love. I think it could be useful for you to differentiate between romantic love and other uses of the word love. Romantic love means that you want to be that person's partner, you want to spend lots of time with them, share your life with them, touch them and be touched by them. So in this context, the boyfriend said "do you love her," what he is really asking is, do you love her romantically, as in, did you kiss her because you were just playing around or experimenting, or did you kiss her because you have romantic feelings towards her? In other words, he's asking if she wants to be in a romantic relationship with the other woman.

I determined this based on the context in which the boyfriend is asking. He didn't specify love the way someone says they love pancakes, or romantic love, so we need to examine the broader context to determine what he meant. We have two clues: we know that he is her boyfriend, so we know he would want to find out if his girlfriend has romantic love for someone else, because that would mean that maybe she doesn't have romantic love for him anymore. The second clue is that he's asking in response to her saying she kissed another person. Kissing is something people do with someone they are romantically interested in, so it would make sense for him to want to know if they were kissing because they have romantic feelings or if they were just experimenting.

We can test this hypothesis by seeing if the other definition of love (pancake love) makes sense in the context of their situation. To me, it would not make sense for the boyfriend to want to know if she liked the person she kissed the way someone really likes pancakes, because kissing is potentially romantic, and he has romantic feelings for her, so he wants to know if his girlfriend has romantic feelings for someone else. As you said, the two girls are friends, so it is obvious they love each other as friends. For these reasons, I think that he is asking about romantic love, not pancake love.

As for "do you love them" versus "are you in love with them," I think I would need to hear more of the context of the question to know what is being asked. Just like with hot and cold, you need to consider the context of the question. There is no objective temperature that is "hot", it is relative. If I ask you if it's hot outside, I'm asking if it's over 90° F. But if I'm asking if the stove is hot, I'm asking if it's over 150° F or so. In the same way, you have to look at context to know if someone means pancake love or romantic love.

  • Do these methods work to view private IG profiles ?
  • So if these methods work and aren't scams, why are you asking about them? If they work then you have what you need? It might be worth keeping in mind that if a girl has their profile on private it's because they don't want people like you looking at their personal shit. Your time might be better spent trying to find a woman in the real world who actually wants you to look at her.

  • More Americans are becoming 'house poor' due to high housing costs
  • I don't think "house poor" is the correct term for people renting. House poor means you spend too much on home ownership. These people don't have too many of their assets tied up in their home, they're just dealing with very high rental prices. "Getting fucked by the housing crisis" is probably a more apt term of art for this scenario than house poor.

  • Rimworld and Dwarf Fortress
  • Appreciate that dwarf fortress is an 18 year old game. They first released it in 2006 and even then the interface was clunky and never a priority. It is a dwarf simulation engine first and an interactive game second.

RimWorld owes its existence to Dwarf Fortress the way Halo owes its existence to Doom, or World of Warcraft owes its existence to RuneScape. Dwarf Fortress is the precursor for all games like RimWorld. So comparing their interfaces will always set Dwarf Fortress up to lose, just like if you compared the controls in Halo against the original Doom. I think you have to approach Dwarf Fortress more like playing a piece of gaming history, and a look into the world of a very interesting human, Tarn Adams, rather than a modern game competing against modern titles.

  • Have you looked up settings for this new resin? Or run calibration test prints with it? If you're using the settings for the old resin with a different kind of resin it won't be right. It looks like your exposure time is too low, the resin isn't being cured enough at each layer so it's not adhering. Bump up the exposure time a lot and see if anything comes out. Also bump support thickness and connection thickness up. You can see the supports not even making full connection with that spear in the photo.

  • Is my art good enough to get commissions? I did these for free for people to get a portfolio going
  • I'll be the one to give honest feedback, no, this art is not up to the level of commission work. Practice shading, sketching figures, and composition. Take some painting classes and watch videos on composition and shading. Like most crafts, it will take a great deal of hard work and practice to advance your skills to the level where others will pay you for them.

First sketch the anatomy of the figure, then add details, then add color, shading and highlights. If you start with just coloring it in you will end up with unrealistic figures and proportions, as you have here, which will never transition to the higher quality portraits you are thinking of selling because you're not starting with good fundamentals. Bolster your passion for art with a foundation in the true skills so that when you practice, you're improving in the right way.

  • What is going on with Hegel?
  • Reading phenomenologists without a guide or instructor is a recipe for frustration. They are very dense and the German language's ability to create new words by mashing existing words together does not help.

Back when I was a philosophy major I found the Stanford website to be really helpful for getting orientated prior to reading the actual text. Phenomenology, like many schools of philosophy, is a response to the philosophy that came before it, so it's important to understand the context that Hegel is writing in.

  • I use blender for editing STLs. Import your files, overlay them where you want them, select both objects, apply the boolean to subtract differences. This should cut the images out of the disc as a negative. Export as STL.

First Warhammer Votann Hearthkyn squad for my Ymyr Army

    > My first squad complete. I loved this new squat range as soon as I saw them. I'm going for a very high (for me at least) painting standard for the army, at least three touches for each element. > > Mixed in some 3d printed bits, notably the helmet and shield for the Theyn. Any good dorf unit needs a stout shield up front. Also a frying pan for the squad cook. > > There are a few things I'll tweak for future units. I'll simplify the scheme a little, stop picking out the elbow and knee pads in black and stop picking out the boot straps in leather. Unnecessary details that took a long time for a unit of 10. I'll ease back on the scratches on the white armor paint and decals, although I like the way the chipping came out. > > PS Lemmy please support photo albums! > > !Theyn > > !Plasma knife > > !Hatchet > > !Designated marksdwarf > > !Squad

How to make sourdough without messing with starter every day?

I enjoy making sourdough, but I don't want to make it every week. I would like to make it maybe once a month if that. I don't like the hassle of feeding a starter constantly, it doesn't feel worth it when I'm only making sourdough every once in a while.

Is there an alternative to maintaining a starter? I've tried throwing the starter in the fridge but I'm so lazy it just becomes a little cup of mold by the time I take it out two months later.

Many thanks for your wisdom oh Bread Lemmies.

Back button on browser goes back two pages

Browsing lemmy.world in a browser. I am on page 3 of my feed. I open a post, read it, and press the back button on the browser to return where I left off in the feed. However, instead of taking me back to where I was on page 3, the back button takes me somewhere on page 2. So Everytime I want to go back to the main feed from a post, I have to click back and then scroll to the bottom and click next page then scroll to find where I left off.

How do I fix this? Thank you.
