I really couldn’t pick up a PS5 and not get Astro Bot.
  • @[email protected] Aye. I try to find general stuff over platform specific stuff usually, but when I see a demo disc, it always grabs my attention. These days I avoid things made for any one platform like the plague, unless it's about a game exclusive to that platform anyway.

  • @OutofPrintArchive If I can find that old magazine I'll scan it and upload a pic or two for you, some of those articles are sure to get you riled up, but most are pretty good reads.

I can't remember the name off the top of my head, it's a magazine that came with a series of demo discs primarily focused on Xbox.

  • @[email protected] I see a lot of "reviewers" refer to platformers as nostalgia bait, almost like they're trying to deter people from making them anymore.

I always ignore reviews of games, and in doing so I've found many gems, like those reviewers years ago that slated Blue Dragon as "trying to capitalise on the success of Final Fantasy and failing hard", I tried it and absolutely adore that game to this day. It's one I constantly go back to when I get the Xbox 360 out.

  • Review for The House of the Dead Overkill on Wii.
  • @[email protected] Funny enough I think I saw Ghost Squad in CeX the other day when they had their "spooky sales" section up alongside other Wii titles fit for Halloween like Resi Evil 4, I'll be sure to grab that one if it's still there next time I go.

As for arcades though, same here. The only arcades were always near the beach, the closest things we had locally were computer cafés and such. I always wondered why they were so far out as a kid.

  • Review for The House of the Dead Overkill on Wii.
  • @[email protected] I remember the first time I laid eyes upon house of the dead in the arcades as a kid and being so scared yet unable to take my eyes away from it.
Wasn't until 2011 on a ferry to Normandy where I saw it again on the second floor and finally tried it.

Still need to buy the first two on Dreamcast; then I plan to get this one as well, you can never have too many light gun games.

I just wish they'd make a good modern way to play them, like what the PlayStation Move could've been.

  • Feature on Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire on Game Boy Advance.
  • @[email protected] I had Emerald, but this series peaked for me here.

It's the game I played most on my GBA SP by far.

  • Out of the blue I wanted to play League Bowling on NeoGeo again.
  • @[email protected] This is why I believe all games should be given a physical release too, it's hard to preserve things we can't acquire anymore.

  • 🎃
  • @[email protected] Wiimotes were honestly perfect for the light gun style of games.
I've been thinking of a way to use sensors to imitate light gun tech in the modern day for games like this. House of the Dead was a solid one, really needs to make a comeback.

  • While it's not quite October yet, the weather definitely is starting to turn and slowly starting to creep into that Halloween mood.
  • @[email protected] They should've done more with this series, one of the best by far.

Legendary in its time. I don't think we'd ever seen such movie-esque story in gaming before or for a long time after.

  • Interview with Nick Wozniak from Yacht Club Games on Shovel Knight.
  • @[email protected] True. We got one for one of those background character knights, wasn't it the Shield Knight or something? But a sequel to the original is way overdue.

  • Interview with Nick Wozniak from Yacht Club Games on Shovel Knight.
  • @[email protected] I love this game so much, no one round here would ever talk about it because it wasn't the cutting edge in graphics.

But they're the ones who missed out on all the fun in the end, Shovel Knight is quality.

  • Review for Tech Romancer on Dreamcast.
  • @[email protected] Ever played Frame Gride?
You like mechs, you'll love that one.

Shame FromSoft never port their games to other systems, they really had something with that.

  • Review for Pomémon Stadium on Nintendo 64.
  • @[email protected] Never forget that Poliwrath is the original Dreamcast fan.

  • Review for Cannon Spike on Dreamcast.
  • @[email protected] I always get Cannon Spike and Charge 'n' Blast mixed up for some reason.

Still remember buying Tomb Raider at CeX and finding Charge 'n' Blast in the back side of the case, as far as on rails shooters went, it was pretty rad.

I'm yet to get Cannon Spike, but it's one I want to get one day.
