  • Stonehenge sprayed with paint by environmental protesters
  • It's a realy interesting tightrope. If you just stand in a field holdong signs your don't really get media attention. in order to get that attention you must do something that grinds peoples' gears enough to have media outlets pay attention to them. But that kind of action needs to skirt the vandalism vector, as otherwise people would be like 'they removed the unimportant turnip of Weddelsex, but I dont care' on the other hand You also cannot be too radical, as it will hurt your cause.

It would be great if enviromentalists had a voice that could be audible over the control over media that is enacted by big companies (murdoch f.i.), but theres little big money in the message of climate awareness, and it's a message most people dont't reallt want to hear.

So... You take aim at objects that are deemed worthwhile and important for the people you wish to reach and try to allign your message with the importance of those ancient and important works.

It's a losing battle as people choose comfort over complicated issues (seemingly) out of their control as annoyance, furthermore being made co-defendant in the case of climate destruction is rather jarring, therefore people are shy to pick up on them, as why should the burden be on them?

So theres no way to positively make your message. Therefore any demonstration is jarring per se, even if peaceful it needs to be at least known, and ironicaaly the best way to do that is to do something outrageaus, as our reptile brain goes very hard on that.

  • You got downvoted but it's a valid question. They don't state that the wine was fortified, however, but the comparison to sherry does suggest that.

In my reading is only compared to sherry because it's from the same region.

  • Pentagon ran secret anti-vax campaign to undermine China during pandemic
  • The military program started under former President Donald Trump and continued months into Joe Biden’s presidency, Reuters found – even after alarmed social media executives warned the new administration that the Pentagon had been trafficking in COVID misinformation. The Biden White House issued an edict in spring 2021 banning the anti-vax effort.

I think this is important to note. Even though the Biden admin eventually stopped it, it could have been done sooner.

  • Do you recognise any usernames on Lemmy?
  • Connect lets you tag people, witch helps with recognition. Both in positive and negative sense. I usually tag people before adding them to my ban list, to see if their behaviour is coherent or a fluke.

Aside from that there's a couple of names that I recall through their frequency of posting or a very specific name, such as Mr cumfart, flying squid, pugjesus and Picard. Otherwise I sometimes recognize names, but not in a way I would recall them.

  • After boots on the ground comment, French PM doubles down: 'Putins troops are already in our country', pointing at Le Pen French PM suggests 'Putin's troops are already in our country,' pointing at Le Pen

Heated exchanges broke out in Parliament between Prime Minister Gabriel Attal and far-right leader Marine Le Pen, following Emmanuel Macron's statement that sending Western troops to Ukraine should 'not be ruled out.'

French PM suggests 'Putin's troops are already in our country,' pointing at Le Pen

    >By raising for the first time the idea of sending troops to Ukraine, the French leader "has taken a further step toward belligerence," blasted his rival Marine Le Pen, of the far-right Rassemblement National (RN) party. She accused him of "posing an existential risk to 70 million French people, and more particularly to our armed forces already deployed in Eastern Europe."

    >"You've been waiting for the first opportunity to remind people of your true loyalties [and] "show your true colors," retorted Prime Minister Gabriel Attal, who had left the Paris Agricultural Show to attend the verbal joust. "When you read the investigations that are being carried out, [such as one published by the Washington Post on December 30, showing the RN's persistent links with Moscow], you have to wonder whether Vladimir Putin's troops aren't already in our country," he continued. "I'm talking about you and your troops, Ms. Le Pen."

Watching sports is better without live spectators ('fans')

During Covid lots of sorts were broadcast without any spectators. I found that it increased my viewing pleasure. No screaming crowds trying to make the most noise with drums (soccer), no altercations, no people throwing things or making annoying noices (MMA), no crazy people next to the road pushing cyclists.

Just the people doing the sport, I can hear them shout, swear and get punched. I can see bike racing without fear a crazy fan will jump in front of the pack for a photo for their grandma.

I don't need an audience to get hyped or to distract everybody with jeers and racist shouting. For me the fans are the worst part of the sport. I don't enjoy watching them, I want to see the athletes doing their thing.

A very weird problem with a link that turns nsfw for no explainable reason Let's talk emulators this week. -

Previously on Lemmy: - Buying Guide: Low End [] - Buying Guide: Midrange [] - Buying Guide: High End [] Past Discussions: - iPhones [] - Repairability/Build Quality [https:...

In this thread, the second link 'midrange models' somehow links to a NSFW 'hot wife in kitchen' link.

Look at my posts in the comment chain. I first thought it was an error by the poster, but the source is legit, but even when I copy the source connect still servers me the hot wife in the kitchen.

Now I found this only amusing and strange, but it could really do harm for people in a work environment.

Maybe some more people can chime in to see if the error is reproducible?

    Vulkan vs Dx11

Hi there! Just seeing if other people have the same issue that I have.

My i7 Geforce gtx 1650 laptop does play the game, but it feels a bit slow whenin dx11, a bit like theres a delay, or if my chars are moving through denser air.

If I switch to Vulkan the performance is way better and way more snappy. Only thing is that it crashes every time I get into a dialog.

So I am wondering if others do have the same problem, or have some insights. TYVM!

TIL America was named after a obscure German city

Many people know that Amerika was named after Amerigo Vespucci. It turns out tha Amerigo is the Medieval Italian name for Emmerich, a rather uninspiring German city close to the Dutch border.
