Texas man sentenced to 3 years in prison for kicking cat like 'a football field goal' on video
  • Someone else, whose identity was not known when the case was presented to a grand jury, poured an accelerant on the cat and set it on fire, the indictment against Williams says. The animal running away on fire was also recorded on video.

    Two psychos

  • Debate wrap up: No one has ever so thoroughly dominated Donald Trump
  • I checked twitter. Generally they think Trump won. They also think the moderators were a Harris' team and it was 3 vs 1. They think he owned her with the "I'm talking now" line. There's also a conspiracy theory that Harris was wearing earrings with speakers in them.

But no debate was going to change the mind of people already in the maga cult anyway.

For 'undecided' voters I've seen this didn't move the needle much but Harris was slightly ahead.

The biggest win is probably for already dem leaning voters being more excited to get out and vote rather than not voting - especially with Taylor Swift encouraging them to register and vote now.

We don't have to guess, they tried. 50 is enough if you can get 50...on these issues the dems couldn't get 50 even when they had the house. Guess which two senators opposed filibuster reform? Guess which two senators also very publicly stated they wouldn't vote for packing the supreme court?

  • AOC launches effort to impeach Clarence Thomas and Samuel Alito
  • You're really trying to strawman me and aren't making good faith arguments here so I'm not going to waste too much time on a response... but take 51 and then subtract 2 from it (for Manchin and Sinema who won't vote with dems on these issues) - is that 50? Besides that dems also don't control the house.

  • AOC launches effort to impeach Clarence Thomas and Samuel Alito
  • This is literally AOC trying to impeach them, which isn't going to be successful in a republican controlled house anyway. It's more just for principle and show.

Court packing isn't really an option right now for the same reason...if dems get firm control of the house and senate then it would be possible. For those who don't know Manchin and Sinema are two "democratic" senators who won't abolish filibuster or expand the supreme court so the current 51 - 49 democrat control of the senate isn't real control either.

  • Canadian mega landlord using AI ‘pricing scheme’ as it massively hikes rents
  • Just Economists. Rent control accomplishes a very limited amount of goals in an non-ideal way. There's plenty of information available on the internet about the downfalls but it basically all comes down to landlords looking to maximize their returns and doing everything possible to avoid rent control and enshittify things for those already in rent control while at the same time halting private development of any new apartments because they can get greater returns elsewhere...so housing options conversely become more scarce.

  • As Debate Looms, Trump Is Now the One Facing Questions About Age and Capacity
  • The problem with the age and capacity points is that Trump can still speak at an idiotic and simple level to his base and fire them up. What's coming out of his mouth is conspiratory ramblings without substance but he's not stuttering and doesn't look feeble while doing it so his base eats it up. Any time he actually tries to talk substance on an issue it's clear he's an idiot but that was true in 2016 and 2020 too.

  • New RAMBO Attack Uses RAM Radio Signals to Steal Data from Air-Gapped Networks
  • The nice thing is that a lot of environments that are secure enough to decide to airgap systems these days also make infecting the system and even moreso retrieving the emissions really difficult. Still a really cool field though and I'm glad this Dr. Guri is getting real weird with it.

  • Unlocked, loaded guns more common among parents who give kids firearm lessons
  • Yeah probably this. It feels okay to be more lax once your kid knows how to handle a gun because of the perceived lower chance that the kid accidentally discharges the gun they find.

But kids trained in gun safety also purposely shoot themselves and others, and also still make dumb decisions and accidentally shoot themselves and others. And a lot parents probably don't want to think about those scenarios in my experience.

  • Introducing XWine1, an Xbox One translation layer for Windows PCs. Currently six games are fully playable, with others reaching logos and in-game. More news to come.
  • For those who don't care, it's an emulator.

For those that do care, it's not trying to emulate the actual hardware of the xbox one it's just translating system calls to work on normal Windows PCs. WINE, the inspiration for the name, stands for WINE IS NOT AN EMULATOR so they probably didn't want to call it one. But you could call it high level emulation if you want.

  • Jill Stein is a plant to nobody's surprise.
  • Indeed. She's liking people talking about voting for her if they're unsatisfied with their current party...the photo of her with Putin at the RT dinner has much worse optics I don't think people need to deep dive into generic instagram likes.

  • Kimberly Guilfoyle forced to ask audience to clap as awkward speech falls flat
  • Seriously the proper move is to tone it down a bit and stop holding for applause so you don't look like an idiot. She just kept doubling down and trying to go full rally on it. Probably difficult to tone it down with all the coke.
