What is the worst experience you have ever had involving Viruses/Malware?
  • 0KB? Anyone?

    Explanation:

Zero kb deletes all files in your home directory, replacing each and every one of them with a shortcut of size "0 kb"

  • What is the worst experience you have ever had involving Viruses/Malware?
  • Turns out being paranoid about computer security when you are completely computer illiterate is a perfect way to get malware.

    Very true

  • What would you like for everyone to know about the type of job you have?
  • Ha! Nice try adverts

Seriously, tho, I appreciate your job.

  • What would you like for everyone to know about the type of job you have?
  • GET. THIS. GUY. HIS. VOTES.

Edit: The budget slayers, almost wanna punch them in the face and walk out of the office for good.

  • What bizarre misconceptions do people have about your field?
  • LoL Buddy, I'm not.

    One word: "patience"

Patience in trying and trying until a solution sticks :)

  • What advice would you give to people in their 20s?
  • That people don't just pull tricks out their butt. (Unless you are in horgwats, of course)

Any maestro in their fields that you meet (be it BMX biker, stunt drivers, programmer, singer, painter, even a handy man) know that they dedicated 10+ hours daily in perfecting themselves in that domain.

The beauty of this is that anyone, even you, can be a maestro at what you love.

Just put in the work, the hours. Surround yourself with maestros in your field, for quick assists.

    You will get there :)

  • what would be a funny thing to teach my 5 y/o niece?
  • Lol, kid will sniff packets next

  • What bizarre misconceptions do people have about your field?
  • In any software development timeline given, triple it to be safe!

Programmers don't just pull perfect codes from their butts

Programming languages (yes, in some scenarios, even python) are hell to work with. And yes, I know developer experience has gotten so much better compared to 5 years ago. Still, there are too many unknowns.

It's like trying to shush a crying baby. Trying every trick on the book to put her back to sleep. But naaah, all she does is cry (no reasons, no hints)

This makes a half-an-hour job take 2 days (hence the unknown delays and setbacks)

If you meet a programmer that pulls a rough prototype of a single module inside a program in a few seconds and works immediately. Know that he/she has 10+ years of experience in that language domain.

i.e. that one granny that "feels the baby" and knows what it wants, making the baby calm immediately.

  • What bizarre misconceptions do people have about your field?
  • TVs, HVACs, stoves, water heaters, fridges, toasters, rice cookers,

    Lol, rocket scientists wept

  • What occupation requires the most education/training only to be very low paid?
  • Yea, I was just messing with you.

I do hope your happy tho πŸ™‚

  • What occupation requires the most education/training only to be very low paid?
  • Well, start your orchestra label, mate. Pioneer the s#!t out of it

  • What's Some Tech That Was Better Than It Is Now?
  • To be fair, MACs are fast (sometimes too fast), and efficient; the perks of having RAM soldered millimeters away from CPU.

But they went and shat the bed, locking the SSDs to the machine and charging $200 for an upgrade. Stupidly absurd corporate BS

  • What would you do if a scraggly homeless person knocked on your door, and all he asked was for a sandwich, a bottle of water, a bath, and perhaps a beard trim?
  • I've got one cousin in particular that will get his ass beat again if he shows up.

    Chuck? Is that you?

  • What's something that seems obvious within your profession, but the general public seems to misunderstand?
  • Rough day, huh?

Parents can be overprotective, (I.e. become shitty parents) and you can't really do anything about that, except hoping that the universe educate them.

  • What's your country's "your barking at the wrong tree"

My $10 says there will be variants of this catchy phrase. (Help me win this)

Developers on Lemmy, where can I get spicy projects?

Currently fluent with c++, not-java, spackles of rust, stilllearning golang.

Backend amateur, who believes there's more to life than EsEsHeching to servers.

I can spare some time to undertake moderate project (or major, we'll see)

Share your source, even if it's java-related, I won't judge, pinky swear.

    Before jumping to it, i soldem wonder;

    • what are the compromises that one would face upon embarking this?
    • can these comporises be that bad? (compared to native ios/android app dev)
    • how bad are the work-arounds (if they exist) to these compromises?

PS: any extra information would be highly appretiated 😊

What human power-ups/power-downs would you choose? Why?

Just got an audience with the creator, gave you an opportunity to choose one organ to enhance/reduce its functionality; Cause apparently the creator can "grant your wish"

    • what organ would you choose?
    • what functionalities would you add/deduct?
    • why such?

IMO, there is an imaginary line btn practicality and functionality of a build.

Further more, van lifestyle is all about compromises, make due with the space you have, avoiding clattery.

This is ticking all the boxes 😊

is it OSS? how can developers contribute to your project?

The dependency hell? maybe theme issues? IDK

Ladies and Gentlemen, this is it.

i have given this project 2 weeks of my precious life, and even now the project spits on my face. Got less than 24 hrs to get his thing working!

    Background:

let it be known on the get-go that i have zero experience on android development. i just started 2 weeks ago... So, like a good folk, i jumped into YouTube, looking for a playlist that could assist me on the project build, and found this. the old "monkey see monkey do" went well, until the 5th video, where he ran his application, and mine couldn't.

Maaan dependency hell is REAL!, and the tutor playlist was a year old. (a lot has changed since then?, maybe) fought that battle the whole week, until i got Gradle smiling again (My God! pheeeeew!) so the project should run now right?... WRONG!

Every time the app starts on my phone, it crashes IMMEDIATELY!

    • clear project cache and restart? Nothing!
    • dependency version change? Gradle doesn't build!

I'm in the middle of yanking my hair off my fiery head.

    here is my logcat:

! this one above says InflateException... jumped to the file that causes this (line 16): ! and here is my introduction_register_login_graph: ! and below is the fragment that is called first from the graph above: !

with my inexperienced eyes, everything looks okay... but again, i'm 2 weeks old in android dev... HELP?

    below are the dependencies:
