I initially tried Lemmy and thought it was too complicated - until I tried it with the wefwef.app web app. It’s design is really similar to Apollo, and is quite responsive for being a web app. Definitely give it a try before giving up on Lemmy.
It's the one true successor to Apollo, and I say that because it's an identical copy. I'm just worried that the developer might drop dead at any second now. Bloke has been throwing updates at us right, left and centre. And he's also pretty active, commenting here and there. Mate got me worried.
The Apollo import feature was great. (You import an Apollo backup and it lists all your subscribed subs. Then clicking each opens a search for similar communities.
no it happens to me too, it’s still a bit buggy, the developer was getting the app rate limited at one point by Lemmy. Luckily they seem to be pretty active on the github page (it’s open source!) https://github.com/aeharding/wefwef
Wait, it’s all in Java Script (well, technically it’s i. typeScript with Vite JS). that means you could host your own WefWef instance on a private server like a Raspberry Pi or something… interesting. You could have direct access to your own private instance. You could customize or tweak it, and it may help with connection speed when you’re browsing from the same network.
