When I was reading Sherlock Holmes (which is set in the late 19th century), I was slightly amused and startled that Dr Watson got hurt in the war in Afghanistan.
In the Benedict Cumberbatch remake set in the 21st century, Dr. Watson is also hurt in the Afghan War.
How mad it must be to be Afghani, people from everywhere constantly invading.
Meh. The Mongols -- those were invaders. The US and Brits, both modern and Victorian, by contrast, were basically tourists
Also the Poles, they got their tank back. :D
