I'm seeing a lot of "beardy guy with glasses" profile pics, some alarmingly like my own. How many of us are there?

When the little "active users" photos rotate, I begin to feel I'm a cliche, as it seems like solidly 50% of you look the same.
Who's putting their real picture as a profile picture on an anonymous, public forum? Facebook is over there somewhere.
36 0 ReplyYeah, about that... I have a secret to confess.
Im not actually a 2D dog8 0 ReplyYeah, and I'm not a actually Alpha, the android protagonist from critically-acclaimed and cult classic iyashikei manga Yokohama Kaidashi Kikou, either. Sorry, guys.

I am. I am absolutely a real Gorgon.
4 0 ReplyLikewise. I am irl a disembodied voice emanating from a haunted jug. So a kameosa, I guess. The avatar's been stylized, though

It's the modern adult nerd look... Lemmy probably has a pretty specific demographic at this point in time.

You weren't informed about the kbin cloning experiment? It was in the t&c
18 0 ReplyI thought this would be obvious, bearded with poor vision checking in.
Your not asking the right question though, something that might now be obvious from profile pics. How many of the users are never-nude? 🤔
14 0 ReplyOkay…. So… if y’all want a goldfish wearing a top hat for a profile pic…
Welcome to a club of weirdos.
8 0 ReplyI'm a fan of frogs myself as you can see.
9 0 ReplyI'm personally a fan of pirate broadcast intrusions of someone wearing a Max Headroom mask and getting away with it. As you can see.
12 0 ReplyThat’s a cute frog.
I’m my waiting for all the cat people to like in and disprove the bearded man as the most common…

I've got a beard but I wear contacts and would never use an actual picture of myself on a public forum like this.
7 0 ReplyI would advise against putting a real photo of yourself
7 0 ReplyMaybe they're all photos of the same guy, and behind them is the wondrous variety of human identity.

solidly 50% of you look the same.
Let me inflate that statistic a little, as somebody without a profile pic who looks exactly like that
7 0 ReplyGoddamn copycats.
6 0 ReplyIf beehaw's post on their user demographics from earlier today is a valid representation of the fediverse as a whole, then 50% sounds about right!
I, however, am obviously a small tree and have no need for glasses
6 0 ReplyYou and me both, my friend in foliage.

Yes, my pfp is also absolutely me.
6 0 ReplyI just wanna take this time to say that every time I scroll past one of your comments, I think your icon is cute. I love those games and it makes me happy

Do you reckon my pi counts?
5 0 ReplyIt's cloning. Canadian cloning. Like Ryan George and all his clone who run the entertainment industry in Canada. Producer, director, writer, sound guy, intern, etc.
In fact... you're all probably clones of Ryan George. Check to see if you're a Canadian named Ryan. Tons of you guys out there.
5 0 ReplyNot everyone is blessed with my raw, vinegary sex appeal.
4 0 ReplyBehind the eternally young green bubble dragon hides a middle-aged bearded man with glasses 🤷♂️
4 0 ReplyYea i noticed some ppl here who have a profile pic, they have a kinda similar style i guess (but nothing wrong w that!)
really i was thinking its nice to see more people with their own pfp, is kinda cool to see who youre talking to.
(Sorry to say im not in that group though - am not a guy, do not have a beard and tho i have glasses i dont usually wear them in pics lol)
4 0 ReplyYou can be a bearded, bespectacled man, if you want to be! I wonder what the feminine equivalent of "beard with glasses" would be on kbin/lemmy?

I feel attacked, validated and welcome at the same time.
4 0 ReplyAs a beardy glasses guy, why WOULD I put my face on a profile picture? I already fade into the background IRL at least here I can be interesting

Another beardy guy with glasses here. I also have long hair, does that make me unique?
When does the "beardy guys bad eyes club" meeting start?3 0 ReplyIt never ends

And glasses, beard, long hair coming in a close second... Ahem
<----
3 0 ReplyI think I have a beard but I've lost my glasses. I'll have a look when I find them, but I already have my suspicions.
2 0 ReplyOne more beard and glasses checking in.
2 0 ReplyHello fellow beardy-nerdy-guy.
3 1 ReplyBearded glasses guys need to get together and fight over the title of Most Average Bearded Glasses Guy. I am bald so I think I'm disqualified, or at least put in a different division.
2 0 ReplyBear and glasses checking in, how's everyone enjoying zelda or diablo?
2 0 ReplyMaybe we don't play those games! Why would you assume!?
But seriously, I haven't tried the new Zelda beacuse I'm still playing Breath of the Wild. And I've been playing Diablo: Original Sin 2, so I haven't gotten to Diablo IV, yet.
I bet you feel pretty silly for generalizing.

I hope no one takes this personally, it isn't, but this is the first thing that popped in to my mind reading this post.
I'm sorry. 😂
2 0 ReplyI... plead the 5th?
2 0 Replynot to disparage anyone's looks or anything, but on the internet guys with short beards and glasses in that very specific 'i'm a techy person' kind of way are eeeeverywhere
2 0 ReplyWhy would I choose a picture of me when I can be a Sexy Shoeless God of War?
2 0 ReplyI've got some news about the demographics of the threadiverse
