Currently on a train in the US. Noticed the guy sitting in front of me on the official Reddit app, looking at a bunch of subreddits and getting blocked by the private subs and their protest messages. Flipped around the blacked out content for a while and then gave up. It works!!!
Considering how many thousands of subreddits are closed down, and how many others have posts restricted but show a sticky with info, that’s quite an accomplishment!
I am (was) active in some smaller niche subs (certain crafts, mostly) and quite a lot of users in those subs didn't know what was going on. I guess some users only use Reddit for a few specific subs, and somehow manage not to see /r/all, etc.
I did it guys. I officially moved Reddit is Fun out of my home buttons on my phone and replaced it with Jerboa for Lemmy. Clicking that button is muscle memory. I've opened it like 10 times today on accident.
I had to do the same, just kept mindlessly opening reddit throughout the day. Maybe it's for the best for me to quit reddit, regardless if the blackouts achieve anything substantial...
I rat-brained and clicked my shortcut (now deleted) and actually got the "UH OH REDDIT IS DOWN AND IT'S YOUR FAULT, JERK" picture a couple times, rofl. Seems like they're getting ddosed too, or y'know regular shitty reddit responding to any traffic
