Hey guys, new to the game (just bought it today! looks fun).
I know it's probably sub-optimal and that aiming precision isn't gonna be the same, but I'm wondering if I risk getting flamed or something if I use a controller instead of kb + mouse.
The reason is that I'm not used to playing shooters on a keyboard and the controller just feels so much more comfortable to me.
Just played a couple non-solo missions (I was too scared to play with others at first, since I had no idea what I was doing) and I'm having a blast. Playing with randos is so much better, mostly for the rock and stone spam ngl. But yea I'm spamming ping ty for the advice lol
I actually use both. I'm on a Steam Deck and prefer being docked and using a mouse and keyboard for shooters, but... I did learn the gyro controller for when I'm handheld, and it's not too bad! The game doesn't have a built in shooting range, but Haz 1 (the lowest difficulty) served that purpose for me pretty well when learning the controller aiming.
It will be entirely fine.
DRG offers dificultys for everyone from Haz 1 to 5 , even beyond that with mods in both directions.
and 99% of the DRG community is super Nice so dont worry about that use the server browser and just evade the few Elitist which limit their Lobby to certain levels join the ones with chill names which are most.
I never tested it since i am a PC player for my whole life. But if you feel more comfortable that way: go ahead. This game is about having fun, not about being the most skilled dwarf in the Galaxy.
I used to play KBM on PC until I got my steam deck, and now play exclusively with the built-in controller. It took some getting used to, and I can't hit the top tier accuracy I had on Mouse, but it's more than good enough for even the high difficulties. Being a co-op rather than a competitive means you don't have to worry about an opponent with a mouse advantage
It's highly dependent on the player and the build. I played so much Xbox as a teen that my aim is often better on controller than with keyboard and mouse.
But also, some weapons and classes don't need much active aim. You can build a load out that "compensates" for the stuff you're not good at. Something I really like about DRG is that there are very few builds that are strictly better than the others; I regularly play with a medium size group and I am almost exclusively a scout, with only one loadout that I use, but the way that I play varies a lot depending on who I play with. One friend's engineer is extremely dynamic, and great at clutch revives in awkward places. If a different friend is the engineer, then they play much more "traditionally" and have their turrets set up to defend an area, then move onwards.
A lot of the fun variety in this game comes from people finding the way that's easiest and most fun for them. Definitely don't worry about using the controller. I've tried switching to keyboard and mouse a fe times and honestly, I really miss being able to switch weapons with the d pad. It's chill, glad to have you along, miner.
Might as well bring a wide-aperture LOK1, swarmer grenades, and gemini turrets so you don't even have to bother with using the aim-stick at all. You can just you one hand to shoot, and the other hand to eat sandwiches.
