Honestly, I sometimes start pretty low temp to get the most out of the terps, but I always finish on high temps. For bong rips, I go high temp straight away.
As for this chart - there's been much debate around it, the accuracy is questionable at best. As soon as you have multiple compounds with different boiling points, it goes out of the window anyway because that changes the boiling points of all substances in the mix.
This is basically what I do. I usually start at 170-180 and then if I want to do a 3 step night I’ll do 200 then 215. I usually just do 170-180 and then 215
I use a Firewood 5 and a Firewood 7 every day. I got started with a firefly 2 that I need to send in for maintenance. Those are the only purchases I've made worth mentioning. I love them all. They've all got great temperature control. I love the way the firefly has a little app that gives a bit more precise settings, but I get right where I need to go with the firewoods too. With the Firewoods: I don't mind needing to look up how many buttons I'd need to click to set a temperature, and to be honest I haven't changed the temperatures on my presets in years. I just go between preset 1 2 or 3 depending on whether I'm inside, outside, or I'm outside and it's windy. Y'know, sometimes you want the one that connects to your phone, sometimes you want the one that doesn't. I'm thinking of saving up for the volcano next.
I have definite temp prefs for every device. My Tinymight2 I generally keep at 7 for quality herb, lower if dry. I have 2 ball vapes and the temps will vary based on a lot of things. Bowl material and depth, and the material of the heater as well as the type of pearls in the heater. It took a lot of personal jiggering about and experimentation but once zeroed in, I always have the right temp at hand. PID setting can be as low as 575F with a Titanium housing full of rubies on a short boro microdosing bowl up to 660-680F in a quartz housing on a tall boro bowl.
