NOAA operates fleets of satellites, sensors on airplanes and ocean-going buoys, as well as radar, providing the data used by weather forecasters nationwide – and freely available to anyone.
Wait till Floridians tune into to NOAA's website to check on the latest hurricane. We literally live and die by that page.
Project 2025 also said the National Weather Service should become a “performance-based organization” held accountable for achieving specific results, even if the head of the agency must “deviate from government rules” to achieve those results.
Not only couldn't but wouldn't bother. No private companies going to bother to put resources into places that can't bring in a significant Revenue. Small towns, farming communities, Mountain areas, these are places where there's just not enough people to pay for the service or at least pay for it to the degree of these companies are going to want. It's inherently a stupid idea. Just like privatizing the post office. The goal of a private company is incompatible with the need of the service.
Especially important to pilots and ATC so they can keep planes in the air, something that seems to be a struggle for this administration. Guess all those brilliant genius ATCs didn't get the message to daddy about the importance of knowing the weather.
