For non mathematicians, ABS() returns the absolute (i.e. positive) value of a number, e.g. abs(5) = 5 = abs(-5)
This way, should the US and Russia want to nuke each other, they can just throw the plutonium instead of building these annoying missiles.

This is actually sort of informative. You can see how much further south South America extends compared to Africa and Australia.
