I am writing to ask for ideas from anyone of who you want to add and how they would be implemented.
There is a hobby I have of practicing my programming skills by creating open source versions of games I like to play.
For a while now, I have been really feeling the need for a GPL Super Smash Bros clone.
It would be so fun to have GNU and his family of characters (popular open source project mascots) to play as similar to how they have it in Tux Kart.
But, I am not very good with balancing and coming up with unique move sets. Could you help me out with fun ideas of what kind of fighting moves Tux and his friends might have.
If you have any special characters of your own design, then I can help after I add modding support.
The move set and control scheme will be exactly from the game this takes inspiration from (or latest version of it). This might change though, depending on what others may want.
Godot will be the game engine of course.
License will be AGPL-3.0 only! Unless there is a reason for another one.

I am not the best developer and only really do quick prototypes, but with this information I can have a better direction of where to go. I can confidently tell you, this will not be too much of a challenge so you do not have to worry. So long as I have time to crunch, it can be made.
This posting is just for whoever may come across it so they can put their ideas out there. Development will not start immediately. I have not been able to work on anything at all recently, but will start again soon within the next few months.
I look forward to the thoughts of everyone. I very much prefer to work in Godot. Please ask as many questions as you need, I know this may not be so readable.
I have only played around with a main menu and its transitions in the past (for this specific project). I'll write a draft later or at least before Dec 6th detailing each game-mode and other mechanics.
I did work on a smash game a few years ago on the Roblox platform, but became disinterested and scrapped it. This one is something that needs to be done.
If I were you, I'd try to replicate the style of the original Smash Bros for the N64: with fewer polygons the characters would be easier to design and animate.
Or, since Smash is fundamentally a 2D game, you can follow the path of Rivals of Aether and go with the pixel art style.
Or mix the two styles, like for example low poly 3D stages with pixel sprite characters: if done the right way it would be really cool IMHO.
Making low poly characters is so much easier. This will be what I do in the beginning, unless I find a suitable model on OpenGameArt. Expect stage two or three of development to have models around the likeness of SuperTuxKart.
Super FOSS Bros. Melee/Linux
I want to see firefox, similar to fox from smash.
Special can hang around the globe in the air to jump and recover. Can shoot flames. Can flame dash like fox side special. Tail wipe flip for up smash. Some connection sound instead of shine down special.
Please orient on the mechanics from melee with wavedashing.
Github cat, thunderbird might be cool mascots aswell. Thunderbird is like falco actually perfect for fox falco type characters from smash.

Android playing like a mix of megaman and samus.
Blender a 3d morphing character going between differen 3d models for attacks(blender suzane, donut, etc can copy a 3d model version of the enemy soecial like kirby.
