Does JD Vance refusing to admit Trump losing the election concern you?
JD just had an interview with the New York times in which he refused to admit Trump lost the election in 2020 5 times in a row.
The question matters in regards to the general population ability to trust our election process. Trump's investigation team dug into the 2020 election and found little to no evidence of material that would discredit the election
They lost 63 court cases appealing the election results
My question is do you guys understand why this question is important. And if you are considering Trump does JD refusing to answer this question matter to you?
Are there any Trump supporters, even for niche reasons, on Lemmy.world? I consider myself a raging US liberal, and compared to this place, I'm a mega conservative, like my neighbor with a "Trump-Pence" sign in their yard... Which speaks to how much distrust there is.
Anyway... This is obviously awful, but its JD Vance being JD Vance.
He's Trump's VP and an educated debater. He's going to sidestep the question, not to challenge his boss and risk his neck over this, why would he? But if he was, say, DeSantis's VP, he would absolutely say Trump lost. From what I've seen, he's not earnest diehard MAGA like others, but more of an opportunist with his own brand.
This changes nothing. The few Trump supporters I know support him because they're evangelical Bible thumpers or just want Trump's tax cuts and hate democrats, and it doesn't really matter what he says or does. I imagine the few "on the fence" aren't reading the New York Times, but just hearing random bits in their Facebook feed... And why would this register? Trump denies the 2020 loss as loudly as he can, you see it everywhere just driving around this country, and I don't see how a NYT interview of a VP dodging the question moves that needle at all.
No, it doesn't concern me. I know this is the textbook example of a country falling into fascism, but I think I've become too numb to the media blowing every little thing out of proportion that it's all noise at this point.
I want to see real, meaningful change. I'm tired of every election being "the most important one". The Republicans are getting more and more right wing, while the Democrats play it safe.
I don't have faith we can keep the people who want facism out of office forever. So the reason it doesn't concern me is, until something serious happens (and no, Jan 6 was not serious), nobody will care enough to push for the change needed to get better.
If you were in congress on January 6th you wouldn’t say it wasn’t serious.
How the fuck can you not call something as fucked up as January 6th serious.
You have a sitting president who just lost the election refusing to give up power peacefully, inciting a mob that tries to take matters in their own hands. Peaceful transition of power is literally one of the cornerstones of democracy.
What else do you need that Trump, Vance and the GOP haven’t said/done??
