Hey 👋 I've been working on a new Lemmy client called Bean for the last few weeks and I've put out an early beta.
It's missing some features at the moment but I'm working to get it feature complete by early next week and would appreciate some feedback as I develop!

Just a quick reminder with the new rule clarification around self promo, this is the only post allowed for this app. Future posts should be in your own community. Speaking of, it looks like your post's community link has an additional !bean at the beginning (

I tried it. The interface is fast and clean and looks like native iOS app.
I just can’t seem to upvote or downvote comments.
However despite that, your app is one to watch out for. Congrats and keep up the good work!

There's one thing missing that I've noticed a lot of Lemmy clients are missing that I used extensively in reddit clients, and that's the button to skip to the next level comment. It makes long comment threads much nicer to read. Any chance we could get that added?
A couple of people have mentioned this today so I’ve added it to my list 😊
Please add one more vote from me for this feature. I miss how it was implemented in Apollo.

So I’m basically running all the current iOS apps and up until now Memmy has been the smoothest, until I tried Bean, I don’t know what you’ve done but there is absolutely zero scroll lag, which is the most important part of any app for me, looks great too
Downloaded and like every app I go looking for the option to increase the font size. Sadly like most Lemmy apps this seems to not be high on the list for early releases . Can’t test it if I can barley see the text in the post and comments without squinting.
Hopefully it is high on the list of things to add. Until them it is still Memmy for me.
Memmy. Memmy is basically what I feel the most put together 3rd party app out there. It’s what I use and it’s on the App Store.
Heads up, a build with the font size slider is rolling out to TestFlight now!
If you didn't know, you can actually increase font size for any iPhone app individually. If you go to Settings > Control Centre and add Text Size, you can change it per app.
I did know but actually forgot about that. I already had the text size in my control center. Regardless I will stick with apps that give me that option in the app itself. Memmy and voyager have it and are my gotos.
I should add that I forgot about it as well defined apps have it in their app settings and do t make me go looking for it elsewhere. And I get it. Maybe I’m not the demographic you are after. I wish you well with the app.
This has to be my favourite lemmy app at the moment. Incredible work! Feels very native to ios. Extremely polished for something that’s still in testflight.
Will most certainly be buying this app when it comes out.
Swiping media away is hit or miss right now but I’m sure things will improve in due time.

One feature I’ve been dreadfully missing from Reddit apps is the “jump to next popular reply” button in a thread (if that’s the correct way to describe that)

There's a similar (maybe even better) feature that was popular in Apollo, which is that, in the comments view, you had a button in the bottom right (position configurable) that, when tapped, would scroll you to the next top-level comment, and if long-pressed, would scroll you to the previous top-level comment.

I agree. I’m still on Memmy for now, but with a few more features Bean could take the lead for me. It just seems very clean.
Memmy is amazing, but the latest update was a step back with respect to bugs so I switched to Mlem for the last few days. The Memmy developers were releasing updates once a day though so that couldn’t sustain forever. I’m sure the app will bounce back.
That being said, the little bit of time I have used bean it’s been very impressive, I already seeing this be my go to Lemmy app. The app is polished and has a lot of features so far! Great work!

This is shaping up to be one of the top apps, looks and feels like native iOS! there's a few things I noted are missing and haven't been reported yet so here's a list before I forget. Hopefully some can make it into a future release:
- Swipe or sharing actions on comments
- Sorting options for comments
- Default sort of comments & posts
- Option to hide the floating reply button on posts
- Changing color scheme of comment threads line
- Tap to collapse comments

This is beautiful, really amazing work. Shows a good number of articles on the screen at once (even on a 13 mini)! Clean, simple, great options. Everything I want in an app.
Also, thank you so much for the Pride app icon options. It’s a little thing, but it assures me that the developer is thoughtful and open-minded. 💖

So many apps for Lemmy are coming out, it’s getting difficult to pick one and stick with it.
This is looking VERY promising!!!! Really digging it so far.
I just downloaded it and used it for a bit, and I’m really impressed. It is going to be fantastic once the rest of the basic features are added. I currently can’t upvote comments in Bean (is it just me??), so I probably won’t be using it much yet, but I can already tell it will be my preferred Lemmy client.

Yep! It's built in React Native so once the iOS version is feature complete, I plan to move onto Android.
It is still missing some core features so it cannot be my main app for now. But I definitely keep this one installed. Really beautiful work.

Wow, this looks beautiful! Love the selection of icons, too. It already feels great and I can tell this is gonna be stellar. Just being able to pin communities is something I really missed from Apollo/reddit so it's rad that you've already got it in there! 🙌
Edit: Any chance we can get rotation when viewing images so we can view them in landscape? As an older lady my close vision is going and I often need to go landscape to see/read things better. :)

Holy shit dude, I was not expecting to be blown away by your super smooth app! This will give Memmy a run for its money..
I have a few remarks, tapping on the "comments" section in my profile does not render them properly!
The themes and app icons are awesome!
While I can use the stock CC slider for font size, it would be nice to have in Bean settings, especially since fonts are in one of the logos inside settings 😄

I love it! My favorite one so far. Looks very polished. My only concerns are 1) how do I get the images big like in your second screenshot and 2) please let me customize the swipes.
If you tap the icon in the top left corner on home to change the view. Customising swipes is on the list but I’d love to know what exactly you’d like them to be.
Installed minutes ago, already fell in love. Would be my daily driver for Lemmy now. One question: are you planning to let users edit the swipe gestures? Instead on „save“ I would like to have „hide“

Update: Very clean and smooth app. The icons are awesome. The upvoting works when scrolling through topics but not in the comment section.

- It looks great, but I don't understand why there is a NSFW filter in the settings since we already have one in the account. Is it because you want to add more filters in the future? Stuff that would be impossible to do from the settings of your own account?
- Can you add a setting to remove haptic feedback? I hate this in every application.
- It's so good I would pay for your application.

Yeah, there will be a bunch more filters in there in the future such as keyword filtering. I'll see if I can pull down account settings but that's mainly there to mitigate any potential issues with App Store review.
Beautiful app! I will definitely be keeping an eye out for future iterations. Looking forward to you implementing the ability to collapse comments, vote on comments, etc.
Comment voting is rolling out on TestFlight now. I’ll be working on gestures for collapsing etc tomorrow

I love the placement of the upvote/downvote buttons on the posts in All / Subscribed / Local. Any possibility of having a similar design for individual comments as well?
It would be very convenient for my single hand usage of the app versus having to reach all the way to the left to upvote 😊.
