Did they tear gas the crowd? Did they shoot rubber bullets into the crowd? Did they keep them from casually strolling around inside the capitol?
There was an issue of the number of them present at the time compared to the number of insurrectionists but they did shoot one dead.
One exception of a person who was close to directly attacking members of congress doesn't mean the protesters as a whole weren't treated with kids gloves.
