Stalinists today talk about the writings of Lenin and Marx like Christians referencing scripture. The identities overtake the teachings, creating terrible cults.
However, that doesn't make the movements universally evil or unprincipled. Liberation theologians and communists have fought side by side against authoritarians. It's important to understand the nuance and learn from past horrors.
