Mods shutdown the sub over the app/api issue. EDIT: some more loop, reddit admins seem to have hired some business types who'r looking to turn a profit. As such, reddit is charging a fortune for third party apps to access the reddit API (backdoor control centre). The third party apps turn a profit off their advertising, reddit claims it does not make a profit. e2: more loop, so a bunch of subreddits are "going dark" in protest.
People are also doing a blackout for accessibility options. Most say that a lot of 3rd party apps are good for modding compared to the official app. Reddit says that none of the bots that use their API is going away. But a lot of disabled people, specifically blind/hard of seeing are losing access to accessibility in apps like Apollo, as the official app has shit accessibility options.
Reddit CEO shit the bed hard. Then hosted an AMA where he proceeded to double down. Now everyone’s pondering if the bed can be saved or if we need to trash it and get a new one.
