I can trust her not to leave the property as she only feels safe when I'm around. More often than not she hints at the door but won't go outside if I don't join her. So as a middle ground, from time to time I give her confirmation from the kitchen window. Been doing this for nearly two years now.
Meine Katze Miez ist kein Freigänger, aber darf immer wieder in den Garten. Ich kann ihr vertrauen, aud dem Grundstück zu bleibe, da sie sich nur in meiner Nähe sicher fühlt. Meist miaut sie an der Tür, traut sich aber dann nicht ohne mich raus. Also haben wir einen Kompromiss verhandelt: Ich schaue ab und zu vom Küchenfenster raus und spreche ihr gut zu. Das klappt seit knapp 2 Jahren so.
When I look out the window and don't see her, I know she's hiding in the shed. That's her sign she wants to come in.

I love the outdoor pics of Miez! It's heartwarming and impressive how well you know her and how much she trusts you. Great story-telling/ photo-journalism as always :D
"excuse me, I gotta walk the cat." seems like a great excuse to get off a zoom call.
Fun fact: I actually walked them a few times. Maine Coon is known for the dog-like behaviours. With Miez it's easy: as long as there's a narrow footpath she just walks and walks, rarely stopping to sniff at some plants. Her brother on the other hand wants to sniff everything. So I attached their leashes together and she'd pull him along. Unfortunately that was only possible if I drove them somewhere, which isn't practical at all and they don't enjoy the ride, so I stopped after a few tries.
As a boss, just send me some cat tax, and I’ll send you the minutes.

(Edit: why be a boss you can’t extort employees for cat photos…? It’s a miracle we get anything done.)
