I think it's less out of fear and more about billionaire wannabe oligarchs tacitly supporting the candidate best aligned with their own interests.
That road leads to the same place.
but the implications are flipped. the headlines imply these institutions were in favor of democracy in the first place and doing a blunder.
"Don't publish that or I'll fire you" coming from the org's owner is pretty good incentive not to publish
exactly what i mean.
