Why do some communities have @[INSTANCE NAME] and some are just their names?

There was also a bug where some communities would have @instancename even on their home instance, like lemmy.world/c/[email protected]. It would continue to work on the home instance but break federation with other instances. I don't know if it's still happening on the latest update.
