Can someone explain what COLLA GREENS means in this context? Collared greens?
28 1 ReplyReminds me of that scene from the office
Michael Scott: ... colored greens ...
Stanley: It's collard greens.
Michael Scott: What?
Stanley: It's collard greens.
Michael Scott: That doesn't really make any sense. You don't call them collard people. That's offensive.
47 0 ReplyJesus fucking christ, that was such a good joke. His ignorant / accidental(?) racism as a caricature was so funny to me because I know so many people like that

Yeah, my white grandfather's favorite meal. Collard greens and corn bread.
33 0 ReplyAs a white man, I love collard greens and corn bread. I can understand how it became associated with (poor) black communities, but damn is it good. It shouldn't be an insult like some people make it.
5 0 ReplyI live in the South. Nobody here ever heard of “Soul Food”.
Everybody eats that because it’s awesome.
Go to a meat and three after Church on Sunday. You will see it full of happy old White People eating exactly what you described.
5 0 ReplyExactly: my first time outside the South eating at a Soul Food place was funny, because to me it was just Food.

I've got a whole song arranged for Appalachian/mountain dulcimer about how great collard greens are. Iirc it's by the prolific author "traditional".
Edit: oops, it's about turnip greens. Totally different.

Yes, collard greens. Loomer is just using racist "ebonics" in her post.
