How I See The State Of Our Union
  • But isn't he still worth listening to if that particular message is interesting? All I am saying is that if I posted AOC to a right wing forum, even though they don't like her, she would not be downvoted just because her face appeared. But it is so predictable of left wing forums because you have that blind think dynamic that someone can't even be listened to if the group has calculated that they dislike them on even one issue. And it is selectively calculated. Biden has said stupid shit in an area or two, but has never been the subject of absolute thought embargo.

I'm genuinely curious what your thoughts are about why that is? Why do the right and left have such different dynamics there? What makes it so someone gets the thought embargo and some don't even though everyone has said some provably stupid shit at least once? I'm really trying to understand.

  • How I See The State Of Our Union
  • Lemmy's blind think is strong. For the record I don't support or dis-support RFK. My feelings toward him are relatively ambivalent. I just think it's interesting that he's about 40x smarter than anything the dems have been running but he still gets castigated as a complete idiot. Have you seen the rest of your lot?

He's only thought of that way as a part of calculated blind think, the communal decision to disconsider ideas because you imagine it will be strategically useful to maintain others within the blind think. Even if you dislike him for a reason or another he makes some good points. But those good points have to be fully disconsidered because it came from him and blind think must be maintained.

Imagine using windows, a niche operating system for PC gaming, for enterprise
  • No. It's a robotic post analysis. But some people here need the theory of humor explained to them because they take everything in a strictly literal way. Like it fully flies over their head that I don't actually think Windows is a niche operating system.

  • Imagine using windows, a niche operating system for PC gaming, for enterprise
  • I swear there is a bug on lemmy where certain people can't read humor at all. There were some theories about this a few years back. Odd question, do you have an inner-monologue?

Here, I will explain the joke. Under one theory of humor all jokes need to rely on some sort of incongruency or two paired incongruencies. It's funny because Windows is not that niche (compared to linux) but it is understandable that a particular person's relationship with Windows is PC Gaming. It's also an incongruency that someone who (hypothetical for the joke) is wrong about Windows being niche would still be able to form a more useful opinion than entire teams of corporate professionals across an industry and still be right.

For real though, if you could get back to me on the inner-monologue thing it would be greatly appreciated. I'm actually here to psych-eval lemmy's users. I'm not joking. So I would appreciate that if possible. Thanks a mil.

Poll shows 84% of PC users unwilling to pay extra for AI-enhanced hardware
  • Maybe people doing AI development who want the option of running local models.

But baking AI into all consumer hardware is dumb. Very few want it. saas AI is a thing. To the degree saas AI doesn't offer the privacy of local AI, networked local AI on devices you don't fully control offers even less. So it makes no sense for people who value convenience. It offers no value for people who want privacy. It only offers value to people doing software development who need more playground options, and I can go buy a graphics card myself thank you very much.

Evidence of Health Risks Associated with Prolonged Standing at Work and Intervention Effectiveness

Basically the short of the long of it is that you should not sit or stand for longer than an hour without doing a few minutes of the opposite.

Otherwise you will start experiencing accelerating fatigue.

Places of work that require standing should prioritize letting workers sit for a couple of minutes once an hour at minimum. It retains 95% of productivity (if not boosts it when fatigue goes down), and reduces fatigue by at least half when compared to perpetual standing.

    It's Only One Vote
  • And because of that we got a better president than the one we have currently. Did you know that historically high voter turnout precedes bad times.

The answer isn't to increase the democrat voter turnout. It's to decrease republican voter turnout. The fewer people vote the more the voters are composed only of high information voters and the more politicians have to talk to the public like we are actual fucking adults. That's good for the public no matter which party wins.

We are basically guaranteed to have about a 50:50 mix of republican and democrat control over time. The question is do you want them to be shit-tier democrats and republicans or high quality democrats and republicans?

A photo of the second shooter
  • It is very entertaining to me how dense this forum is. It's like interacting with a race of clones, each with the same part of their brain missing. It's such a novel experience compared to interacting with complete humans, just because of how un-novel each person is.

  • Just kind of makes sense no?
  • Thunderfoot covered it. Doesn't work. You increase your road infrastructure complexity by too much. There is even better lower hanging fruit (parking lots, building roofs), and until you fully saturate that lower hanging fruit it doesn't make sense.

Remember, returns on solar are tight. You want to spend as little money on mounting it as possible. Building pylons that can withstand a car crash, putting those pylons as far away from the road as possible to reduce driving hazards (even if they can withstand a car you almost don't want them to because that could kill people), then building a roof to span all of that where there wasn't one is not minimal mounting costs. There are places where some of those factors we want already exist without additional construction.

Of course some will say, but we make pylons like that all the time. Yeah, for expensive overpass infrastructure. Not for every mile of the road. You want to keep your standard road as cheap as possible, and you want to keep your solar mounted on the low hanging fruit all around you.
