Republicans are quietly pushing to defund transgender healthcare even for adults
  • The article is about adults. Your comment was definitely not clear that you were talking about children. The risk of cancer in adults and children on HRT would be likely quite similar, and there's no strong evidence that these drugs cause cancer in either adults or children.

Antidepressants still increase the cancer risk in children and adults and are commonly prescribed to both without anybody throwing a fit about it. And both children and adults with gender incongruence that's left untreated are quite likely to commit suicide.

So all of my original points still stand for children, and we weren't even talking about children to begin with.

We were talking about taking away health care for adults.

  • Republicans are quietly pushing to defund transgender healthcare even for adults
  • Based on the available evidence, the concerns about cancer in transgender populations, albeit biologically plausible, are neither adequately supported nor convincingly alleviated because of a lack of well-designed epidemiologic studies.

    From this paper.

    https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5868281/

The biggest risk seems to be HPV causing cancer, which may not be related to hormones at all, but the fact that trans people may be more likely to have HPV to begin with. And how HPV will interact with gender affirming surgery, rather than with hormones.

In other words, the jury is still out and what you are repeating is not science but likely transphobic propaganda.

And on the other side of the equation you have to consider that gender incongruence causes severe suicidal ideation in a lot of transgender people.

So, if it was your loved one struggling for decades with suicidal ideation and attempts, would you want them denied life-saving medication because it might increase the risk of cancer? Because that's what your argument boils down too. Denying adults life-saving medicine because it's plausible that it could increase the risk of cancer.

And just to nail my point home, here's an article on how common medications used to treat depression increase the risk of cancer. Should we stop prescribing those too?

  • This isn't true.

Harmon replacement therapy increases your risk of some types of cancer and reduces your risk of other types of cancer.

For example, testosterone is one of the main causes of prostate cancer. Going on a testosterone blocker significantly reduces your chance of ever getting prostate cancer. Like, almost down to zero.

The chances of trans women getting breast cancer is higher than it is for cis males but lower than it is for cis women.

So, you don't know what you're talking about. You're just spouting off transphobic information without checking any of your facts. And you're pissing off this trans bitch who doesn't appreciate your bullshit.

Gender incongruence is life threatening. I lived with suicidal ideation for four decades hiding in the closet. And you're misinformation and propaganda is hurting people.

  • Okay, in which case the flu pandemic is also not over. (According to the WHO article). And comparing deaths in less than a year (400k) with deaths over three and a half (700k) is a fun way to manipulate statistics

And, I'm going to watch the Harrisburg speech. Because I can't find a transcript and I suspect the twitter quote is as bullshit as your COVID one (which is bullshit because if you use quotation marks, you need to quote somebody, not put words in their mouth and take it out of context). I'll report back in an hour.

Edit: He did say he ended the pandemic. That is some serious hubris I admit. Not like Trump doesn't have hubris in spades but you do you.

  • Do accute infections give false negatives on home tests? Partner just got over it and I have no idea how I didn't catch it.

I'm vaccinated and boosted, but so is she. And the first day or two of symptoms we didn't realize it was COVID. So, I had a lot of exposure.

Any advice would be appreciated. Long COVID would suck!

  • My partner just had it. The spin on this is funny though. Testing yourself after an exposure to be sure you don't spread it isn't an abundance of caution. It's just par for the course for anyone that's not an asshole.

Acevedo said Harris was tested for Covid-19 on Saturday “out of an abundance of caution” and the result was negative.

  • The quotes make me think this is a sarcastic comment about Trump supporters rather than an attack on the president. But if I'm wrong, here's the quote.

"The pandemic is over," he said. "We still have a problem with COVID."

    Emphasis mine.

  • Republicans were cooler back when Marx liked them
  • And capitalists profit off of both because phone calls and commissary are monopolostic contracts awarded by the state. Often to corporations who in turn lobby for harsher jail and prison sentences.

Plus, prisons and jails don't build themselves. And often the medical services are outsourced to corporations, rather than being county or state employees.

Incarceration is big business. It doesn't really matter who owns the prison or jail.

  • If you could create a new religion, what would you include to make it wholesome, interesting and helpful for the world?
  • I appreciate the heads-up. I'm actually a Buddhist, so not really looking for a new religion. I mostly admire the work TST has done for religious pluralism.

I watched Hail Satan? They went into some of the schisms in the TST, but it was framed as the chapter head not following the principles and damaging TST's overall goals (encouraging people to kill Trump). Are there other examples? I'm curious, but not curious enough to go on reddit.

  • After Supreme Court immunity ruling, Biden draws sharp contrast with Trump on obeying rule of law
  • The court's ruling represents a victory for Trump. The conservative majority found that some of his actions, including his efforts to use the Justice Department to pressure states to replace certain state's electors with pro-Trump electors, are "absolutely immune" from prosecution.

So, political witch hunts of state electors are on the table, apparently. I think that's what I would do if I was Biden. Start using the Justice Department to stack the electors, especially in red districts. The investigations alone would be a gold mine.

I'm sure there's a lot of other mob boss level shit a person could do with this superpower that I'm not considering. Here's some ways Trump did this.

Anyway, I looked into drone strikes and military strikes in general. If there was a national emergency caused by an attack on the U.S., it's properties, or armed forces, he can basically do whatever he wants. Otherwise, congress has to approve all military deployment. Drone strike or Commander and Chief pulling out the 9mm.

  • If you could create a new religion, what would you include to make it wholesome, interesting and helpful for the world?
  • That's a lot of projection. You just dismissed all religion as bullshit, which is simplistic and dismissive.

I said, welp, you don't seem to be acting in good faith, so I'm not going to keep playing.

    Then, you project?

We can try again, but not until you reread your comments and understand why I stopped engaging.
