Why Kbin insead Lemmy?
  • I am not advocating Kbin or Lemmy. But it is interesting to me that the reason behind the inception of Kbin was related to Lemmy. See the full discussion here where the creator of Kbin, @ernest, stated:

The point is, I don’t want to create a lesser evil here. I want to create something truly good, which is why from the very beginning I’ve been striving to be transparent on all fronts. I’ll just say that before starting from scratch, I tried to create kbin as a fork of Lemmy. I like Rust, I respect them as architects and I’ve learned a lot about managing such a project. However, ultimately, I believe that I cannot remain indifferent to certain things. That’s why kbin is what it is now. Nevertheless, that collaboration with Lemmy’s developers can be beneficial for all of us at this stage. After all, Lemmy is not just one instance, and many amazing people are building the fediverse using this software.

What was those "certain things" we do not know. But the full discussion there revolves around the political views. Check it yourself. But at the end of the day, choose what suits you best since they are contribute to the same Threadiverse.

  • Samsung Electronics Expands the Self-Repair Program to Europe
  • Thanks for sharing. I would also choose normal repair option in this case.

They also just changed my battery with no extra charge which is never going to be the case with self-repair.

The article mentions "Customers can purchase display assemblies that consist of the phone screen, metal frame, bezel and battery to replace the display. " I guess the self-repair kit includes the battery though.

  • Samsung Electronics Expands the Self-Repair Program to Europe
  • Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. today announced that its Self-Repair program is now available in Europe, specifically Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Poland, Spain, Sweden and the UK. This move builds on the company’s recent Korean launch of the program.

This is encouraging. Hopefully they will expand to more regions.

  • OotL: What's the deal with people claiming Lemmy as a whole supports the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), dictatorships, denies genocides, etc?
  • I believe that one of the Lemmy developer is a "tankie". See https://lemmy.world/comment/311333, also https://lemmy.world/comment/329485 for supporting evidence. And the dev clearly stated that they (singular) denied a genocide is taking place.

But I don't think using Lemmy itself supports the atrocities. However, it is difficult to explain all these to outsiders if we want to attract more users, especially when there are other Reddit alternatives.

  • OotL: What's the deal with people claiming Lemmy as a whole supports the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), dictatorships, denies genocides, etc?
  • On another topic, there are rumors circulating that we are fascists or supported genocide. These claims are completely false, and like most viral twitter threads, are coming from a single Mastodon user on a personal vendetta who didn’t provide any sources.

Well, they denied to be fascists or support genocide, without denying being "tankies". I don't know how they would respond to such claims, but I did found out that one of the developer did (or do?) hold "tankie" views. See https://lemmy.world/comment/311333 and https://lemmy.world/comment/329485 for more.

  • Lemmy.world officially has 30k users!
  • Thanks for bring this up. I agree with you. They straight up denied those incidents. However, the conclusion of my comment still stands. They are indeed "tankie".

The term is also used to describe people who endorse, defend, or deny the crimes committed by communist leaders such as Vladimir Lenin,[7][8] Joseph Stalin, Mao Zedong, Pol Pot, and Kim il-Sung.

  • Update from Lemmy after the Reddit blackout (From the Lemmy Developer)
  • Update 3: @[email protected] did state that they (singular) disagree that a genocide is taking place.

    Update 2: My conclusion

Update: So I dug around a little deeper, and found that

On another topic, there are rumors circulating that we are fascists or supported genocide. These claims are completely false, and like most viral twitter threads, are coming from a single Mastodon user on a personal vendetta who didn’t provide any sources. Such slander doesn’t deserve any response and is best left ignored.

Update: More info about @[email protected]
