I'm not an advocate for this law actually. Don't assume. I was looking at some potential upsides. I don't want my history going to places it doesn't need to, and I don't want to use my I.d like most people to view these types of content.
My foccus also was on the legality for the sites, and for the user. Just because I even entertained a few potential benefits, which might never happen. It doesn't mean I am wanting this law.
Can't be good if it is actually used like that against LGBTQ people. Someone might be able to try to get a case against the law, for that type of harassment targeting.
Red note must be real famous now, if Nbc news is covering it. It's almost like they banned Tiktok for nothing because now there is another one emerging. They should just not ban Tiktok. Rednote might even be worse than Tiktok for those concerned because the revolt will just grow if the government blocks something deemed a national security threat.
In the u.s it's not illegal to use a platform just because the government doesn't like the country. Because you have free speech, right? Their are certain limits of what you can post and view but the u.s has never banned a website in this direct type of approach before Tiktok. and I just think websites getting banned in the u.s will continue to be rare thing. Piracy sites going bankrupt from copyright infringement cases is a completely different thing then an outright ban.
Yeah kill this law at all cost then. I was already against it but was trying to look for something good to grasp to from it.
I'm not for the I.d restriction at all but if the law were pass there are some potential upsides for that industry.
Regarding image, the question might be, would nsfw sites with Id checks be a step up regarding image to Apple and Google Play. Many of these types of sites don't currently require a credit card, or any real age verification at all, usually very minimally. When any do require, it's for users In select locations.
Yes. There are downsides such as privacy issues, but if it were to pass, it would give those types of sites, potentially some opportunities they wouldn't have had before regarding official apps on appstores and just more legality assurance when a user is using them. It's really a back and forth issue.
I don't understand how the Tiktok ban is related to another apps' user decline.
This law would impact, sites based in the u.s of course, being a u.s law. The ones that don't follow the law, that are also based in the u.s could risk penalties or more if this law is able to pass. Which is seemingly the point of direction of these type of laws. I really just think I might help some of these sites get an official standing if it's more official and even the law is like, ok, you can exist just comply with this.
I believe they could then more safely get these types of sites on app stores knowing that kids couldn't just stumble into them.
Maybe not TIktok itself, I was mainly referring that it's maintained by a Chinese company. Too many people in the u.s think China is communist, but it's lately more like socialism.
But whether it's socialism, or communism, the Republican party most outspokenly, won't have either one of those. Mainly because it can devalues the capitalists.
I can see some benefits to this.
- nsfw content might now be even more legally protected I the u.s if viewers are defacto 18 or older. You can argue all night if it’s moral, but as a varified legal age viewer, no government will show up at the websites door over minors accessing. If you if you don’t this this happens look up some of the biggest names cases and questionings and etc directed at these websites.
It might actual get these nsfw a more official standing, as even today these types of sites are seen as small 3rd partys. They don’t have apps on Google play. But having these types of things in place might make nsfw sites more likely to get an appstore app in the future.
- If minors cannot just easily join such a site like these, and upload nsfw content, your content is much more likely to be legal viewing privately in your home.

I don't know. Elon might or might not face the consequences.

“They” say they are banning it over national security concerns I think it’s deeper then that. They can’t have a socialist like platform having an audience. Which in my opinion is why they wanted to force a sell or just ban Tiktok.
I don’t think, that they will go after Rednote if it doesn’t gain popularity the way that Tiktok did.
