The end of Reddit? Why the blackout is still going – and what happens next
  • I'm sort of one of them? I mean I'm married, got my own place, now got a stable job etc, but I barely ever see my friends (all moved away), and my work friends from an old job I have just lost touch with.

Trying to replace the online social life with Lemmy, maybe something like IRC? Who knows.

  • Redditors, how do you like Lemmy?
  • Finding a good analogy is hard. But at the risk of sounding like a snob, a little barrier to entry isn't always a bad thing...

The thought of trying to explain this to one of our users (helpdesk monke). No thanks...

  • Shut down 4 more subreddits

Shut down 4 subs I used to moderate. Sure, the biggest only had 200 subscribers (didn't realise it was that high) but I'm doing my part...

ELI5: What's the differences between Lemmy and kbin?
  • So if you set up say a cycling group on kbin, you can also make the group watch the #cycling tag, any any mastodon or other micoblogging content will appear on a special tab in your cycling group.

Now that is a powerful feature. Great way to fill a feed with content too.

  • Here's how it's going to go down.
  • RedditIsFun closing down was the straw that broke the camels back. I keep tapping where it used to be in my most commonly used apps and opening WhatsApp instead... then I remember and scroll down to Jerboa instead. I think there'll always be a reddit shaped hole in my heart, having been a redditor for about 14 years (changing accounts messed up my time keeping), but something may grow to fill the space yet.

We shall see. Whether its Lemmy, Mastodon, Calckey? I don't yet know. Possibly I will need to start my own instance to feel at home, but I'm looking forward to that journey.
