Unusual villainess reccomenations
  • This is a really solid list! The One Within the Villainess is the one I came here to recommend. I love villainess stories and this one really feels the most unique to me, though I'd say at least half of your recommendations are some of my favorites and the rest are ones I've been thinking of picking up, and now probably will.

  • I just wanted to celebrate one of my favorite indie metal bands getting a major label deal

I found 花冷え。(HANABIE. in English) around a year ago and they've blown me away. I'd broadly group them in a sub category of kawaii metal (pioneered by Baby Metal), but I think they really bring something unique and I am excited for them to broaden their reach!

Here is their biggest song to date, so you can get a taste of their sound!

  • Having worked in the financial industry, this sounds uncomfortably close to the truth.

  • Does anyone here use a functional language in their day jobs?
  • I'm afraid something similar is going to happen at my place of work. A lot of the top brass that was pro functional languages left during our rounds of layoffs, so I'm concerned that the ones that are left are going to decide that Java is better (easier to hire for).

  • [DISC]Dungeon Meshi - Ch. 95 - Falin III
  • I think it's less a villain, per se, and more a pervert.

  • Does Lemmy really benefit from Rust? Is code execution speed the bottleneck?
  • I mean most CS courses don't teach you to code or what a project should look like. It's why the mentality in most professional work is to pretty much forget everything you learned in college and you'll be trained on the job.

  • What's Lemmy reading?
  • I'm currently working my way through The Infinite and The Divine by Robert Rath. I think it could be enjoyable without knowledge of Warhammer 40k, but it is set in that universe. One of the better extended universe type stories I have read so far.

I also want to start in on some of the programming books sitting on my shelf, and maybe finally start on American Psycho, but so far I've been busier reading comics and stuff on Lemmy.

  • Why aren't there more admin level graphical tools available for Linux? Or if there are, what are they?
  • I think that's just human nature when you switch to something new. It's much easier to see the things you no longer have than it is to see things you've gained, regardless of what it is.

  • Let's Keep Beehaw Going
  • https://beehaw.org/post/428209

It's a week old and not super detailed, but it looks like they're on Digital Ocean, but might be looking to move to a cheaper service. Based off of how I've seen the site struggle I don't think they have any horizontal scaling.

  • What are peoples thoughts on games requiring always online? How does it affect your enjoyment of those games?
  • Obviously you have to take a corporation at it's word, but Valve has said that in the event they're going to take Steam down, they have a button to push to make it so your games will stop trying to phone home.

  • Kbin.social has disabled federation temporarily.
  • The no federation is recent (and due to the antiDDoS measures as mentioned in the post). I've engaged with some communities on their and talk with some people from it. I personally haven't checked it out, but a lot of what I've heard is that it's an easier onboarding experience.

  • The Anarchist Library
  • Another, more intro list from Bread and Roses.

  • Kimi wa Houkago Insomnia · Insomniacs After School - Episode 10 discussion
  • I'm apparently really bad at this, I thought that was airing next season. Guess it gives me another series to catch up on.

  • Do you listen to any new bands? Or just same as 10 years ago?
  • If you stream I find curated playlists and sometimes even radio stations based off of songs to get me to new acts. I've found some of my favorite acts this way.

It doesn't help with finding new genres, though. I've actually found the occasional odd ball in my YouTube recommendations are decent for this, but not great.

  • Redditors, how do you like Lemmy?
  • Just remember: Only You can prevent dead communities!

  • Let's kick things off with something spicy: ZIO vs Cats vs Something else
  • Probably just the nature of where I work and the Scala circles I'm in, but until I asked the question here it seemed like Cats was in the lead for market share.

  • Rolled this one with a hash core. cheers lads and lasses
  • I've always used glassware or a vape, so I'm extra jealous of how nice a roll you got.

  • Finally getting a computer (lost mine post breakup with boyfriend) what new games should I play? The games I played were CS:GO, overwatch, and Victoria II.
  • If you like/are interested in the tycoon type of RTS management games, I really enjoyed Jurassic World Evolution. Instead of building an amusement park, you build a zoo of dinosaurs, often rescuing them from the wilds (after they escaped from the movies).

Otherwise RimWorld, which you said you have, and Dwarf Fortress are the classics but can be hard to get into. I hate recommending going to YouTube, but I know there are some "let's plays" that can really help you get over the hump that comes after the tutorial.

  • Hoping r/neovim moves here
  • I could see user migration being nice to have, but as a stopgap you can put links to your other profiles in your bio section, if you want them to be associated.

  • Let's kick things off with something spicy: ZIO vs Cats vs Something else

I tend to prefer Cats and that's the more commonly used ecosystem at work, but I've heard that the more framework nature of ZIO can be really comfy. I've also used Play, which had some nice things but is starting to feel like it's showing its age and the rough spot Lightbend is in.

I'm curious to hear what everyone else is using and your hot takes.
