Julian Assange has reached a plea deal with the U.S., allowing him to go free
  • @[email protected]

Bush, Trump, Clinton and Biden all got more innocent people killed than Julian. Their crimes all dwarf anything he is accused of let alone is guilty of. If you are not a literal bot, you have allowed yourself to be programmed by intelligence agencies into hating the man who exposed the crimes over the men who committed them.

  • Streeting announces he will "go further" than Tony Blair with NHS privatisation
  • @[email protected] The British People don't want it at all, but we are ruled by fuckheads who can only get their seat by accepting bribes from private health companies.

  • General election latest: Rishi Sunak to call election for 4 July - after 'long' discussion in No 10
  • @[email protected] That's why the sudden rush-move. Calling the election before enough letters can arrive to have him kicked out.

  • Public don’t want to admit they’re Tories, says Liz Truss
  • The british public are pretty conservative, but the tory party are a fucking wrecking ball and no conservative should vote conservative if they want to conserve things.

  • Rishi Sunak says Britain would go ‘back to square one’ with Labour ahead of first major campaign event of year.
  • @[email protected] Yeah, it'd just be easier to reset than to sort through good from bad. Can always re-assess any good ones. Chances are even they can be done better.

Resetting the Brexit and other foreign treaty stuff could be quite tricky in practice too.

  • Rishi Sunak says Britain would go ‘back to square one’ with Labour ahead of first major campaign event of year.
  • If only there really was a party offering to undo every law the conservative and coalition governments have passed and return us to a time before they existed.

That party would be the best party.

Sadly that isn't on offer and even Labour intend to keep this mess of a country mostly without any reverting of changes at all.

  • People, please, it's "ex-twitter"
  • While it still says "twitter.com" in the SSL certificate, that's still it's name. It is still called Twitter.

  • Labour is going to be more radical than you think it is | Ian Dunt
  • There's literally no way to know what a Labour government will be like. All we know about Starmer is that he's prepared to lie and say whatever he thinks he needs to say to get power.

Was he lying to the left to get selected? Or is he lying to the right now to get elected?

    🤷

Even to whatever extent they have described any policies at all, they're probably just lies.

Still. The mystery prize will indeed be better than yet more crazed Tories. I suspect just not all that different.

  • If all adblocks get deleted, would you still pirate?
  • @XeryBlox The first thing I would pirate would be a hacked version of Firefox that had ad-blockers in it.

If I can't get that then I'd think about abandoning the web for Gemini.

  • What will the next UK Labour government do about Brexit?
  • In the first term of a Labour government they will maybe be a bit less hostile towards the EU but they won't be re-joining or anything. They'll have no mandate to do so since they worry putting it in a manefesto would alienate their red-wall voters.

As it currently looks Labour won't do much of anything at all. Continue tory spending plans, refuse to raise any taxes, not rebuild any schools, not make any changes which may affect the social order or reform capitalism in any way.

Expect 4 years of calm with almost nothing happening. Which in itself will be quite a relief.

  • Tory MPs submitting letters of no confidence in Sunak
  • @Oneeightnine The only horrific thing he has to do is look like he'll lose the election.

For what it's worth, I too have no confidence that Sunak will win the election, thank goodness.

Those submitting letters to the committee now probably never liked Sunak in the first place, some may have even submitted them on day one when they were just angry at him ousting BoJo.

  • Big money donors desert Tories and switch to Labour
  • Of course they do, Labour will be the ones passing the laws in a couple of years and they've shown under their current leadership they are no threat to established interests and will do nothing to change the order of things and since the party has lost so many members it needs the money.

  • Bank of England raises interest rates by a half point to 5%
  • @BenGFHC
They only have one button. Their choice is to press it or not press it. So they press it when inflation is high. You could get a robot to do it. They know it won't work, might even make it worse, but they have no other buttons to press.

  • "If you build it, they will come"
  • This wave will surely redouble when the apps actually get turned off next week.

Fedi has always had scalloped growth. Big Social tightens the thumb-screws, a wave of people leave, half of them go back because it turns out they can put up with the thumb-screws after all. Those that remain settle in and start servers. The waterline is then higher when the next wave comes.

  • [Rant] The people - or rather the attitude - of r/piracy
  • Probably the "company" that they thought you were shilling for is Kbin or Lemmy? Which aren't companies of course, but an understandable mistake.

Presumably the people on Reddit will become more and more in favour of the admins, as everyone who isn't leaves.

Soon all that is left will be the Spez Fan Club.

  • Apologies for the problems
  • Everything was good for a while, but the 500s are back here on Fedia, particularly on index pages :(

    @jerry

  • Federation question - can I post threads to remote magazines?
  • Yeah, federation ain't working right in ways bigger than just kbin.social having a captcha. This whole instance feels almost isolated at times. Might be overloading issue. Jerry seemed to think the CPUs were all racing at max all the time and planned to upgrade to 4x the hardware. Not sure if that happened yet.

  • Federation question - sopuli.xyz
  • @jasongreen

Dunno, but there is something weird about that group on the sopuli.xyz server.

If you look at the page
    https://sopuli.xyz/c/fountainpens

You get a 404 even though the page
    https://sopuli.xyz/c/memes

    Works okay.

To see it on the sopuli site you have to look at
    https://sopuli.xyz/c/[email protected]

Like the group is remote to the server, even though the remote host it's on is indeed that server.

Notice that if you click the group-name from https://sopuli.xyz/c/[email protected] it points to https://sopuli.xyz/c/fountainpens which is the 404.

    Curious.

  • Fedia Discussions @fedia.io pre @fedia.io

    What is /sub for - it's showing things I haven't subscribed to.

The page at https://fedia.io/sub is called the "subscribed" page, and shows threads from various different "magazines".

Fair enough, but isn't it supposed to only show ones from groups I've subscribed to? Does my subscriptions have any effect on that page at all? Is it just subscribed instances maybe?

Is it supposed to be like that? If the latter, is there in fact a page which shows only threads/blogs etc. from just groups I have subscribed to?

Description of the why what and how and differences between Lemmy and KBin

Seen a few people asking if there's a document comparing lemmy to kbin and explaining what they are and why they exist and why they are hot and how to do them.

So I wrote one in my blog

    Here you go.
