Custom Maps Help
  • @anonymous111 mind sharing your map?

  • What's up with Overture Maps?
  • @infeeeee @[email protected] oh, glanced over that! Seems like I didn't properly read your comment, sorry 'bout that

  • Finally an xkcd comic about OSM 👀
  • @redd @Tyoda https://mapcomplete.org/trees is mobile friendly and supports the species tag. With plantnet, it even uses AI to automatically detect it!

  • OSM resturaunt photos/reviews?
  • @redd Basically that. In @MapComplete , I'm simply querying nearby reviews and seeing that the name is somewhat similar.

This means that is a shop changes name, they lose their reviews.

  • OSM resturaunt photos/reviews?
  • @ApplyingAutomation You can use https://mapcomplete.org/food for this - it has reviews (thanks to @mangroveReviews ) and picture upload

  • Street-Complete, like Pokemon Go but for good.
  • @abeorch @blackris StreetMeasure heavily relies on some Google Services (notably the 'augmented reality'). As the maintainer wanted to keep SC free of the google dependency, the StreetMeasure functionality was split out into a separate app

  • The OsmAnd Birthday Quiz - including some funny answers ;)
  • @GravitySpoiled @[email protected] Yeah, maybe we should ask them to use framaforms or similar next time.

  • OSM knows where my solar panels are
  • @nudnyekscentryk @bruhbeans IIRC, there was a project in the UK which tried to map as many as possible, in order to predict fluctuations in electricity supply.

We know where clouds are with good precision. If we can match this with the locations of solar panels + some math, they could predict small fluctuations.

  • Some work for the OpenStreetMap community in 2024… 😀🚰
  • @Doudouosm @openstreetmap (i happened to see it in another toot, while in the train station...)

  • Search engine that defaults to open street map?
  • @HubertManne Qwant.com uses "qwant maps", which is basically OpenStreetMap in a different branding.
DuckDuckGo has Apple Maps as provider, which is partially based on OSM (but, meh). However, the bang !osm will take you to OpenStreetMap (and !wosm brings you to the OSM-wiki)

  • @sab @badbrainstorm @booklovero @mangroveReviews Eh, Activitypub hasn't been very popular 'till last year ;)

Furthermore, thĂŠ big problem with reviews is reputation and real reviews. Activitypub doesn't give a big advantage for a problem like that.

  • 🛴🔌 Unless anyone objects, I'm going to suggest we map these things as
  • @osmfeed @[email protected] @[email protected] I have done a lot of work on the tagging scheme for bicycle_rental https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Tag:amenity%3Dbicycle_rental, which I see that you "copied" the gist of. However, someone added bicycle\_rental=virtual as option without discussing this first, incorrectly assuming that a painted area on the floor is, in fact, not virtual but real paint.

As such, I would say that this is, in your case, this is an escooter\_rental=dropoff\_point instead of a escooter\_rental=virtual

  • @sab @badbrainstorm @booklovero mapcomplete.osm.be ties together pictures and reviews by @mangroveReviews . Feel free to make a Mastodon-widget showing socials though!
