You set the bar pretty high for your first race.
She averaged 4:57.4 per mile and held on after a blistering start to shatter the record.

The Chicago Marathon is now the site of the existing men’s and women’s marathon world records. Kelvin Kiptum set the men’s mark, 2:00:35, in Chicago in 2023.
One way to send money without really sending "money" is to give them gift cards for the local grocery store. Everyone needs groceries and it often has more of a free gift feel than a charity case feel to it. You could even pass it off as if it's something you won or received and you're just passing it along.
I retire my shoes at 500km. I figure $100 a few times a year is a small price to pay to prevent injury. To paraphrase Death Becomes Her: take care of your feet. You're going to be together for a long time.
I went to a podiatrist last year because I thought I had a stress fracture (it felt like I was walking on a rubber ball), but after being x-rayed I was told it was metatarsalgia and what I was feeling was inflammation. I got some inserts for my shoes, eased up on the running for a bit, and took some ibuprofen. Earlier this year I ran my second marathon and I signed up for my third next spring. Now I only need ibuprofen when it flares up which is mostly when I get to peak running weeks in my training plan. Running is not out of the question but definitely listen to your body when it tries to tell you that you are overdoing it.
Have you tried a physical outlet for these emotions? Hit the gym, or put on some headphones and go for a long run. Running can be very meditative and you can do it pretty much anywhere.
Studies show cases of rhabdomyolysis are on the increase over the past few years. The unfortunate thing is it's completely preventable with a well thought-out workout plan and sufficient hydration.
I recommend going with the OpenRun Pro if you're going to buy some. I have both the OpenRun Pro and the less expensive OpenMove, and the OpenRun is more comfortable and has better sound quality.
I'm a bigger guy (over 200 pounds) who runs marathons so my concern is the cushioning and the impact on my feet. I put a 500 km limit on my running shoes, after that they graduate to walking shoes or general gym shoes. My go-to are Asics, and I wait until a new model comes out and then buy last season's shoes at a discount, anywhere from $60-$110 for a pair depending on what color I want.

First, you should stop or at least ease up on the running to give yourself time to heal. Second, work on your calves and ankle flexibility. Downward dog is a great calf stretch, try to keep your heels on the floor during the stretch. It may take some time to get there if you're not very flexible. Third, if the pain doesn't go away then you should see a professional to make sure you don't have a stress fracture.
This is exactly what I do. It lends itself to something like 'prefix_specific-info_version' which is both sortable and easy to read.
Seems like if the UK government doesn't want them sold to a foreign party then the UK government should purchase them and keep them safe.
Don't mix the vinegar and baking soda, they just react with each other and cancel out (acid + base do that). I do a cycle with vinegar, the do another cycle with baking soda + detergent, and it works pretty well.
I've got a Eufy RoboVac 30 and until reading this post it didn't even occur to me to see of there's an app. Turns out there is, but we've never used it and never connected it to our wifi. We just hit the button to turn it on and it works just fine. It came with a remote that we can use to set a schedule but as far as I know it has no way to call home.
Congrats! I have such a hard time keeping my HR low while running. Last winter I added some stationary bike to my routine because it's much easier to control my HR over a long workout. I also only have 2x 33km in my marathon plan, I may need to add another, but I don't think I could keep it up for 6 months!
I very much prefer the front pocket vest to the backpack reservoir when running, it sloshes around a lot less. I also put about 1/8 tsp salt in each of the 500ml flasks for a little bit of electrolytes to prevent cramping on long runs.
I think what you're looking for is Standard of Living. The economy may be doing well but the standard of living is stagnant or going down for many.
Not at all, unless you have poor running form. Many people are able to run just fine for their entire lives, even running marathons in their 70s and 80s.
I listen to music. Sometimes I use Spotify's auto-generated playlists and find new things. I was also into the "Zombies, Run!" app for quite a while which is a zombie apocalypse story that unfolds as you run, and you get to listen to music in between story clips.

How can we help?
I really want to see lemmy.world succeed, but I'm not sure how I can help make this happen. Maybe this thread can be used to organize some grassroots support for @[email protected] and team so we can make sure they don't get burned out in the next few days. I have a network background but not much coding (although now would be a great time to learn!). I'm sure there's documentation that can be written, fundraising that can be done, and non-techy ways for the non-techy people to help. Post some thoughts below!
