Candidate for this position must love irony
  • I honestly don’t see what’s ironic about it. It’s obviously a non-profit, which usually operate with volunteers and interns. At least they’re being honest about the internship being unpaid in the title rather than leading people on.

  • What space object do you find the most interesting?
  • The idea behind the heliosphere and all its related parts are really interesting. Something about a giant space bubble/teardrop flying through the galaxy that blows my mind. Learning about termination shock and the sink basin example really gave off this weird sense of cosmic grandeur that can be somewhat replicated on earth. As above so below kinda thing.

  • [Discussion] Best Movie of 2024 So Far?
  • Though I agree, I wonder if Deadpool vs Wolverine will take that spot. The only other one that can mayyybe top those would be Beetlejuice if it’s any good. But Dune pt 2 was so good that’s it’ll be hard.

  • Which Email provider Tuta or Proton?
  • I switched over to Proton from Gmail about 8-10 months ago and it’s been great so far. Folders and filters have been like what I was used to. The only thing I haven’t played around with much is calendar and invites.

I ended up going for the whole proton bundle since it included the vpn, storage, and custom domains (up to 10 addresses I think)

  • US sues Adobe for ‘deceiving’ subscriptions that are too hard to cancel | The Justice Department alleges that Adobe hid early cancellation fees and trapped consumers in pricey subscriptions
  • I switched to the Affinity suite today after almost 20 years of using Adobe products. After the trial I realized that I actually enjoyed the layout of the tools and the familiarity between photoshop and illustrator. Their InDesign alternative (Publisher 2) is pretty nice too. It really helps that they’re giving 50% off right now. (Smart marketing btw)

Only thing I’m struggling with finding a replacement for is after effects. I already made the switch to DaVinci for video so motion graphics is the only hole left to fill and then I’m free from Adobe.

  • What's an idea you have that should be an actual thing?
  • Instead of mandatory military service like some countries have, people should have mandatory public work for two years. Whether it be labor, clerical/administrative, etc, it could help young people learn a new skill, get guaranteed work to get the started, and could potentially save a ton in taxes. It would also create the opportunity to start getting caught up some things that keep getting swept under the rug like bridge maintenance , etc.

  • Omagh hum: Source of mystery noise traced but not made public
  • Ben Jordan on YouTube made a video not long ago about mystery hums and came up with a decent theory… pipelines. Something between the pressures and size of them. He explains it better than I can but I wonder how many cases this could be related to.

  • How to reach out to university staff for consultation

I’m working on an indie game that deals with Space Sciences. I’m nearby a well-known university for aerospace and space sciences and could use some guidance from people that know the subject well. The university’s faculty directory helped me find potential contacts but I’m not too sure on the proper etiquette for contacting them.

Do I just contact a few of them individually to their uni emails? Do I contact their provided phone numbers? Do I reach out to the Department Head and ask for their guidance? Is payment usually expected for an initial conversation like this?
