I'm enjoying reading the complaining about mortgages and rent prices though. Feels like a common undercurrent of frustration and anger that permeates us normies.
I'm subscribed to aussie zone but its also pretty quiet.
I enjoy browsing /r/perth every now and then but I just get a weird feeling from it. Not about bots specifically, its just everyone is so... salty? About either politics, bad drivers, housing.
Someone needs to:
- Sign up on lemmy.perthchat.org
- Search for a remote community from the Perth Chat instance (mine for instance [email protected])
- Subscribe to it
- Wait for scraping to happen
It doesn't really work for dead instances where not much activity happens because the subscription only works as new activity happens, it doesn't backfill comments, only posts.
Still, at least we're not stuck with short tweets as the limits of our attention span

Super long articles, fair enough, I struggle these days to get through investigative journalism articles that take hours to read.
I'm a filthy Australian so I still can't buy it in stores here... :(
Maybe Steam Deck users are more prone to leaving reddit or something.
Its a great point! We basically lack the local foundation and infrastructure for old-school journalism. I don't think there is an appetite for supporting it from the community so its unlikely to ever change.
That's lame. I just run my own instance. I'm based in Perth and the server itself is in Sydney, so nice and fast.

Yep, so now its very difficult to run your own mailserver. Extrapolating this to Lemmy, I guess large instances will start autoblocking small instances by default.
Just the cheapest Digital Ocean instance that is on a 2 core CPU. It helps that its just me on there, so I don't have to share with anyone... yet.
Eh you're probably right, Lemmy web UI is actually pretty speedy and functional already
Yeah I guess at a certain point (carrying keyboard mouse around with the Deck), you're better off just using a laptop
