I am a technical and strategic founder developer experienced in web3, software engineering and building startups over the past 10 years.

I operate at the senior software engineer to CTO level, and am able to develop a company's "zero to one" product.

[ Community Update ] - Regarding David's Departure 2023-06-22
  • What's the context here? What happened?

  • [Meta] Steam Deck has reached 3k subscribers. We did it Lemmy!
  • One day I'll even get one! Still can't buy them (via official channels) in Australia

  • No Reddit Refugees ?
  • I'm enjoying reading the complaining about mortgages and rent prices though. Feels like a common undercurrent of frustration and anger that permeates us normies.

  • No Reddit Refugees ?
  • I'm subscribed to aussie zone but its also pretty quiet.

I enjoy browsing /r/perth every now and then but I just get a weird feeling from it. Not about bots specifically, its just everyone is so... salty? About either politics, bad drivers, housing.

  • No Reddit Refugees ?
  • Someone needs to:

It doesn't really work for dead instances where not much activity happens because the subscription only works as new activity happens, it doesn't backfill comments, only posts.

  • Hello Reddit refugees
  • Still, at least we're not stuck with short tweets as the limits of our attention span

  • Who are you, roughly speaking? What industry are you in? What is it about your scene that made lemmy pique your curiosity?
  • I'm in the software industry which is smaller than it probably should be here

  • Hello Reddit refugees
  • I'm okay with "in-depth" comments that are short comments on Lemmy lol

Super long articles, fair enough, I struggle these days to get through investigative journalism articles that take hours to read.

  • [Meta] Steam Deck has reached 3k subscribers. We did it Lemmy!
  • Maybe Steam Deck users are more prone to leaving reddit or something.

  • Hello Reddit refugees
  • Its a great point! We basically lack the local foundation and infrastructure for old-school journalism. I don't think there is an appetite for supporting it from the community so its unlikely to ever change.

  • One Small step, a giant leap for Fediverse but...
  • That's lame. I just run my own instance. I'm based in Perth and the server itself is in Sydney, so nice and fast.

  • Lemmy self-hosters. What is your image cleanup process?
  • Related note, pictrs is super cool. Its like an OSS imgur backend, but no one really talks much about it or its potential.

  • One Small step, a giant leap for Fediverse but...
  • Yep, so now its very difficult to run your own mailserver. Extrapolating this to Lemmy, I guess large instances will start autoblocking small instances by default.

  • One Small step, a giant leap for Fediverse but...
  • What were the federation issues with aussie.zone?

  • Should I host my own instance if I don't intend to run a community?
  • Just the cheapest Digital Ocean instance that is on a 2 core CPU. It helps that its just me on there, so I don't have to share with anyone... yet.

  • Anyone want to collaborate on a new Lemmy UI? Built in Svelte
  • Eh you're probably right, Lemmy web UI is actually pretty speedy and functional already

  • [Meta] **r/steamdeck_linux** will henceforth be restricted. Consider this the canon forum for the community. Also, sort by new; hot and active are broken.
  • Yeah I guess at a certain point (carrying keyboard mouse around with the Deck), you're better off just using a laptop
