This memorial was removed six times. Then it came back on a trailer
  • It's better parked than most cars I've seen along there, with room to get past without any fear of being doored. It's not ideal but I give it a pass.

It's not legally a bike lane either because it isn't marked correctly (a painted white bike symbol isn't enough), but regardless, any bike lane that allows parking is a bike lane in name only.

A ghost bike marking the spot where a cyclist was killed was deemed a safety hazard – until it returned on a trailer.

‘Absurd’ speed limit lands $460 fines for cyclists. Even joggers overtook them
  • Wow that sign is extra ridiculous. I think most people would struggle to read it standing right in front of it let alone driving past.

s316 does give a lot of leeway e.g.

    (b) the sign has additional information on or with it; or

    (e) the sign is combined on a single panel with 1 or more other traffic signs; or

The point where it becomes substantially different is pretty subjective, which IMO shouldn't be a thing when you're talking about road rules, but it's sadly not the only example.

  • He's also blocked on MB's Facebook where he uses his real name. And TBF he is a bit of a troll. Although the bar for being banned by the minister is fairly low. Any kind of negative sentiment on his posts is usually hidden or outright blocked pretty quickly.

  • I'd really like to see the speeding fines formally challenged in some way. You hear stories from cyclists that they or their mates have had them overturned, but I haven't seen any actual evidence of this. Maybe it's the case that police just choose not to proceed when the fines are challenged, and avoid setting a formal precedent in the courts.

It would also be interesting if this specific case was challenged. Like you say, it sounds like the 10km/h is supposed to be advisory, but the sign they have used is a regulatory sign which can be enforced by a literal reading of the rules. Not sure if it would hold up in court, and might come down to the judge's attitude towards cyclists.

Police were fining cyclists up to $464 on World Car-Free Day for speeding on this Brisbane city bridge.

Bob* was riding across the Kurilpa Bridge into the city on a quiet school holiday Friday morning, also coincidentally World Car-Free Day, when ... BAM, he was $464 poorer.

  • Fox got blocked after that :)

I've ridden with Mark Bailey before and he rides FAST. His PR for the Goodwill Bridge is 44km/h with 33 km/h average, and consistently well above 20km/h average for most of his rides. I don't think you can wave all that away as a GPS glitch.

It's clear the St Lucia to West End bridge is going to disappear

Council says 'Yeah we want to do it, but now we need the other levels'

Please don't listen when they say our promise was only $550 million. They talked about five bridges, the delivery should be five bridges.

  • Cr Johnston is being especially fiery today, butting heads with the Chair multiple times. She was formally reprimanded multiple times and in turn she dissented against his rulings.

"Mr Chairman, you are a grub and I dissent in your ruling".

LNP members calling for her to be removed from the meeting but so far the Chair has resisted.

  • She claimed its budget is four times the homelessness program budget, but not sure the dollar figure. It was a stunt motion really and she kind of poisoned it by claiming it's marketing for the mayor and LNP councillors. Maybe there's some bias there but whenever I've looked at it, it's mostly just generic what's on and what happened kind of content.

It was in response to Cr Howard's stunt motion again calling on the state govt to use Pinkenba for crisis accomodation. And to round it off there was another stunt motion from Cr Cassidy calling on BCC to support the federal govt's Housing Australia Future Fund.

  • The southside stations were identified as a bottleneck for the increased throughput that CRR adds, so Fairfield to Salisbury are getting extra platforms and raised existing platforms to better support NGR. And I think they rolled in the long overdue accessibility upgrades at the same time. AFAIK that was always the plan from the start, but there was also the late addition of the 3 new stations on the GC that have somehow been tacked on to the CRR project.

That street gets pretty busy during peak with drop-offs and commuters, and there's access to the shopping centre too (which could/should be easily closed). But yeah I wouldn't have thought it would be super high priority.

  • Cr Johnston and someone else (maybe Cr Massey?) called him out specifically on Twitter.

Plus he has form: 14/06/2023 minutes (.doc file warning)

Councillor JOHNSTON: The LORD MAYOR stood up in this place and he put out a glossy brochure. He said, there’s going to be a second bridge and he and the Councillor for Walter Taylor Ward are on a unity ticket to see thousands more cars come through our area. Well I’m not—I mean the Councillor for Walter Taylor Ward is actually repeatedly blowing raspberries at the moment, which I think is kind of offensive but, you know, as he turns his chair and turns his back, I mean I guess that’s just how he rolls in this place.
