Is there a good rarbg replacement yet?
  • Theres 1337x, but otherwise I would look for a private tracker holding open signups.

  • I mean realistically they probably do know that. They just frantically do not want to be associated with anything perceived as gay, to a comical degree.

Philosophical quotes that helped me as a young person grappling with existentialism.
  • I feel as though that's a bit reductive and not really the energy we should be bringing to a discussion. I'm not necessarily saying you're not right in a lot of cases, but it could be seen as disparaging to some.

  • I'm really enjoying no down votes on Beehaw
  • It's kind of unrelated but I think the lack of downvotes pairs well with lemmy's lack of vote counting (a.k.a karma score). Counting your internet points always feels so performative to me and kinda ruins the point of upvotes in the first place.

  • A few quick notes
  • It seems that Digital Ocean is considered relatively expensive actually.

Though I hear it has good support and it's very easy to use. I can't speak on how much AWS costs though, I'm unsure and don't like supporting amazon regardless.

  • Science Stopped Believing in Porn Addiction. You Should, Too
  • This is fascinating, but I'm having a hard time grasping something. The title and article mentions that porn addiction itself is not backed by science, but the findings seem to just indicate what the most common predictor for porn addiction is religiosity rather than the previously theorized availability through the internet. Am I misunderstanding something here? I think I'll give it another read...

  • Recommendations for games where the sound takes it to the next level?
  • The Hotline Miami series and Katana Zero really stand out to me. Hollow knight and Persona are also fantastic.

  • A few quick notes
  • Beehaw.org is run off Digital Ocean, they currently have 16 vCPUs and 32 gigs of ram. They plan on hopefully scaling back down once the whole reddit migration situation has calmed down.

  • Any recommendations for low-end, Linux-friendly games to play?
  • Just need to be aware that there is no native way to play this on pc. However retroarch/emulationstation runs great on linux.

  • Any recommendations for low-end, Linux-friendly games to play?
  • Backpack hero is very cute and fun, and runs very well through proton.

  • The Anarchist Library
  • Love David Graeber's work. Bullshit Jobs is iconic.

  • Suggestions for LineageOS device?
  • I'd say ease of use is up there, lot's of apps just won't run without google services. Graphene has the ability to run google apps within a strict sandbox, which can be great paired with separate profiles for different purposes. It's really clean and user friendly, while still putting security and privacy at the forefront. I quite enjoy the default app as well, except for the messaging service, which I find lacking in basic features.

  • This isn't any article in particular, but rather a fantastic resource for anyone who wants to research leftist theory, or improve their praxis.

Disregard the name as it is a wealth of knowledge for socialists, anarchists and communists alike. I'm sure many here have learnt about this free and open library in the past, but just in case it's the first some have heard of it, I thought I'd share.

    Comfort games?
  • Gotcha, I prefer a bit of structure (BOTW being one of few exception) so that works out for me.

  • Desktop GPU Sales Lowest in Decades: Report
  • Agreed on all fronts. And there's never been a better time to make the jump to linux for gaming!

  • Comfort games?
  • So basically a game that's heavy on exploration and puzzles? It's not open world is it?

  • Desktop GPU Sales Lowest in Decades: Report
  • Yeah it's an artificial limit. Pretty sure you can remove it, saw something about it on github.

And yeah, on linux at least since kernel 6.1 intel arc is really plug and play.

  • Desktop GPU Sales Lowest in Decades: Report
  • I wish intel got more attention in this field. I have an a380 in my homeserver and its great for lighter tasks such as transcoding a handful of streams at a time. They've been putting a lot of effort into improving the drivers for gaming as well as general use.

  • New mod introduction!

    Hi luckless here :)

I figured I should make a little introduction as I've been given the opportunity to help this little slice of beehaw.org flourish as a space for engaging conversation free from bigotry.

I'll try to contribute some interesting articles I find myself as well. I have a particular interest in anything related culture and sociology, though I love reading about things I've never heard of, which I think this community is perfect for!

Hope to see you all around!

    Hector Gachan - Untitled '91

Some really nice music by this guy, I think everyone should give him a listen at least once. His music tends to drift between indie and psych pop/rock and the lyrics blend his eastern and western influences really beautifully.

Our smoke, their sky: Canadian haze triggers everything from gags to jabs as it hits U.S. capital

With dozens of fires raging across Ontario, Canada, it's interesting to see it sparking discussions on global warming not only locally, but over the border and beyond as well.

Unfortuntately our MPP Doug Ford cut the Ontario Emergency Forest Firefighting fund by 67% back in 2019 (https://budget.ontario.ca/2019/chapter-3.html#t3-11 chapter 3 under Natural Resources and Forestry) so we're in a really bad spot in terms of being able to deal with this situation.
