  • I didn't say Abe Lincoln I said Hey Blinkin

  • What does this mean?
  • Nah. As long as your instance is federating with all the ones that you want to interact with, there isn't much of a reason to have multiple accounts. However, if you want to see and interact with content that your main instance has blocked, you might then make another account.

  • As an OG Reddit Sync user of over 10 years, all this arguing really brings a tear to my eye. 🥲
  • Sync is closed source, while most of the other apps are open source. So you can't see or modify the code of Sync.

  • Like a record?

  • Which one are you?
  • Fish flavored fries? Yuck! No thanks!

  • Is it relevant on which instance I have registered my account?
  • The only exception is if one of the two servers has chosen not to federate with the other. In that case, you would want one on each account. However, that's pretty rare as of right now.

  • Looks like it can be self-hosted. You should be able to install Docker and run it with the docker run command it shows (then go to localhost:8080). Here's a link to it on GitHub: https://github.com/rystaf/mlmym

  • The Pixel 4A will stop receiving security updates in August. New phone suggestions?
  • Have you considered installing a custom ROM? That's what I do especially if the phone is still totally functional. It looks like Lineage supports the 4A https://wiki.lineageos.org/devices/sunfish/

  • This is exciting! Jerboa is alright, but I still miss Boost. Glad to see he's working on a Lemmy version!

  • Even though Lemmy and Kbin use two completely different software platforms, they are both based on a technology called ActivityPub. This allows different servers (instances) to talk to each other using a process known as Federation.

At the moment, Kbin is federating (meaning talking to other servers, including Lemmy), so you can view and interact with Kbin magazines from Lemmy. I am not sure how it works on Kbin, but for us Lemmy users, we copy paste the Kbin link into our search bar.

So no, you don't really need to make separate accounts unless the instance (website) has blocked yours or vice versa.

  • Accidentally blocked a community, how do I unblock it?
  • It's different for us Lemmy users. Too unblock a community, you have to go to the community itself and click unblock. Edit: It's also in settings under blocked on the website

  • So, I've been trying to utilize other instances of kbin and every single other instance I go to requires a different and unique login. I could somebody explain what I'm doing wrong? I assumed that my
  • As far as I am aware, logins are not federated. I would think that federating the logins would give opportunities for other instances to potentially decode your password because of the way that federation works.

  • Federation issues with other instances

I've noticed that communities from sopuli.xyz aren't showing up in the search. Is Pawb.Social having issues federating with that instance? Or is it just that the instance might be overloaded?
