Do normal people mute the ads or just let the television keep going?
  • I ignore them. I don't really watch TV channels nowadays, both shows and ads are just background noises to me.

  • Any advice for a long-time Linux user, first-time Linux *desktop* user?
    1. Use a separate bootloader partition for every OS. Windows is known for destroying non-windows bootloaders. It rarely, if ever, touches anything else. Many distros have a /boot partition with initramfs since grub might not support booting from the root partition's filesystem. Integrity is ensured with secure boot, /boot encryption is optional.

    2. LUKS is straightforward, and most non-DIY distros have encrypted root support built-in.

    3. Gnome has Google drive support in the file manager itself, although it's not exposed to CLI yet.

    4. If you're not short on storage, I personally highly recommend Flatpaks as they are containerised whilst also come with a sandbox solution. Avoid non-default frontends when using system packages.

    5. Check out immutable/image-based distros like Fedora Silverblue. They are proved to be extremely reliable and need little to no manual maintenance since all changes are atomic and generate a brand new OS.

    6. Avoid Nvidia GPUs. Their proprietary drivers are compatibility nightmares.

  • What is this pop-up??
  • It's a new bottom sheet photo picker introduced by Google recently. You're probably using the generic file picker before, no way to get rid of it unfortunately.

I think they made it as an excuse to enforce scoped storage, at least for photos.

  • European Union set to revise cookie law, admits cookie banners are annoying
  • Just don't remove it entirely, currently companies will at least pretend to comply.

bEFORE yOU cONTINUE tO gOOGLE sure is annoying though.

  • It's Wrath of the White Witch Remastered on steam.

And yeah that mobile one looks like cash grab to me. Never played it tho.

  • The Game Awards 2023 fell short of honoring its own industry
  • It a show whose goal is to generate revenue. That's it. That's the whole thing.

If you want awards that are actually worthwhile by themselves, GDC and BAFTA are the better choices.

  • Been playing the original ni no kuni as part of my Ghibli playlist.

The game shows its age right from the get go, though it's still adorable and fairly charming. 5 hrs in and my only complaint is that jumping is somehow an unlockable, but yeah guess it's just me.

Steam input support is a pleasant surprise. And I ran into a steam bug because of that(¯\_(ツ)_/¯).

  • Just install EndeavorOS lol
  • That's the issue. Arch and it's wiki are labyrinths for beginners.

For anyone not interested in tinkering all-day long they're better off using fedora, debian or suse.

  • Short-term, absolutely.

Long-term? Bad product experience is why people bought those eye patches, or straight up moved to another platform.

  • Why are (mobile) browsers so big?
  • All complete browsers are big. The small ones typically don't have their own engine built-in.

iOS browsers all use Safari's WebKit as their engine, so they'll probably be smaller than their Android counterparts.

  • Some feedbacks

    1. Swipe actions appear to be using legacy vibration, instead of modern haptic feedback.
    2. Personally, I think the community and instance list should be pages, instead of bottom sheets.
    3. Community and instance pages should not be part of the home page, in my opinion.
    4. Bottom sheet swipe-down always requires two swipes, no matter how fast the user performs it.
    5. Bottom sheet gesture bar is not transparent. It should always be transparent.
    6. Top sheets doesn't go through the status bar. Again it should always be transparent.
    7. Load spinner and confirmations should not be bottom sheets.

Carrying on an old tradition. What features / issues should I work on next?
  • Some pages don't have overscroll rubberbanding.

  • Why is X.org not suing bird site X.com?
  • They'll likely get drowned in the birdie's gigantic pile of cash.
