Imagination Medicine - The World Sucks (And I Hate It)

Small band from my area

In your opinion, what is the single most influential punk album?
  • To be honest, Nevermind probably has had more of an impact on punk and pop punk than Dookie, just introducing alternative music to the mainstream as a whole. Stylistically? Not at all. But from the perspective of introducing music more like that to the world, Nirvana is your band.

  • Looking for a new sound and can’t quite land anywhere
  • I’ll check them out! Thank you!

I am looking to upgrade my guitar but I can’t come to a concrete decision. I currently play an Epiphone Wildkat Studio which I have enjoyed thoroughly, but I feel as though a different instrument would allow me to broaden my range further. It’s a very bluesy guitar with a beautiful fat and clean sound, so I’m looking for something that will contrast greatly with it. I think I’m looking for something that can really whine and scream, but chug hard as well. A Strat seems like a good idea, but I haven’t found one that really felt right in my hands. And I’ve tried some Teles, but they don’t chug as much as I am looking for. If anyone has any suggestions, my ears are open.

In your opinion, what is the single most influential punk album?

Across the genre and associated genres, what album or albums have had the most influence across the board? Obviously it would be very easy to say the Ramones or Sex Pistols’ first albums, or Dookie/Enema, so let’s see some really juicy answers.

I think Suffer by Bad Religion was kind of a big turning point into everything becoming much more musical and is among the best skatepunk albums there are. I also think Life’s Not Out To Get You by Neck Deep kinda started the nü school punk sound we’re hearing all over.

    Best/favorite live punk show?

What’s the best punk rock performance you’ve ever seen? (either live or in recording) Personally, No Pressure is probably my favorite band I’ve ever seen in person, but I love blink-182’s 2004 concert at Camden which you can watch here.

    Black Flag - TV Party

Possibly the greatest punk music video ever filmed and one of the most classic punk records ever. Black Flag rules!!! What are some of your favorite music videos?

What were the first three albums that really got you into punk rock?

My first three that I can recall were:

Enema of the State by blink-182 A Hangover You Don't Deserve by Bowling For Soup Mmhmm by Relient K

but a big shoutout to Milo Goes To College by the Descendents for being the first traditional punk album I ever really got into.

Social Distortion's Mike Ness Diagnosed With Tonsil Cancer

During the recording of the upcoming release of Social Distortion, lead singer Mike Ness was diagnosed with stage 1 tonsil cancer. Read about it here.

It seems as though he's mostly fine, and that it was both caught very early on and is quite treatable. There's some great quotes in there, throughout which Mike remains very positive, so I think we're all good, but they did postpone the new album and tour. He'll need some time to recover, but it seems there's no stopping Social Distortion!

No Pressure - Say What You Mean

One of my recent favorites. I got to see them perform this live in Santa Cruz a few days ago, and they were totally electric!
