The next years are going to be fun... The world is burning while the fossil fuel industry is chugging along like everything is great as long as you buy enough co2 credits.

I'm scared in what kind of world my children will have to live in...

  • I also work in IT and found writing down stuff helps me solve problems and remember things better. So I got an e-ink tablet to write the stuff I want to write, but I'm still able to view the stuff I've written and it also got OCR if I really need it in a better formatable way.

  • What animal or insect going extinct would have the greatest impact on the ecosystem?
  • Ever wondered what happened to all these bugs on the car when driving through the countryside? There is already something big happening and we are just getting started.

Here is a talk on the topic of insects driven to the point of extinction due to neonicotinoid pesticides (unfortunately the talk is in german. Maybe someone is able to find a english version) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z_p9yYXZuCI

  • What advice do you have to share with the random folks of lemmy?
  • Treat your body good. Eat well and get some kind of exercise into your daily routine. Even Walking 20-30 minutes a day is enough to keep you healthy enough.

When you get into your mid 30's things get harder.

  • looking for something to store photos digitally.
  • Have a look at an nvme ssd and an enclosure for it. I’m using a icy box one for mine. This way you can get 2tb storage for about 130€. There are a ton of options regarding enclosures. If your budget allows you should get two for additional backup security.

  • How are you going to avoid using reddit?
  • The goal for me right now is to reduce/eliminate reddit usage as it wasn't providing anything to my life. I was just scrolling and wasting time on mostly useless content.

So far lemmy has been more interesting and engaging, additionally I prefer that it's more aligned with the open source movement.

  • How are you going to avoid using reddit?

I just catched myself looking at reddit again.

To remind myself not to use reddit in the next few days (or never again if I succeed) I added it to my uBlock filter list. Additionally I deleted all reddit apps from my phone.

What's your strategy on how to avoid reddit?
