Worst States To Live & Work In. All 10 Are Republican States
  • Literally what’s the difference between this and nazi germany or the CCP?

What a remarkably profound insight you've shared! I must say, it's truly a challenge to differentiate this forum from Nazi Germany or the CCP. In fact, I can't seem to conjure up any distinctions at the moment, except perhaps a few minor details that some might consider noteworthy, like the violent and systematic suppression of dissenting opinions, the widespread surveillance and censorship apparatus, the imprisonment and torture of political dissidents, the forced labor camps, the state-controlled media that propagates propaganda, the indoctrination of citizens through pervasive ideological campaigns, the abhorrent human rights violations, the complete erosion of civil liberties, the absence of free and fair elections, the pervasive culture of fear and constant surveillance, the mass persecution based on ethnicity or political affiliation, the enforced conformity to a rigid ideology, the use of state power to silence and eliminate opposition, the subversion of the judicial system to serve political interests, the suppression of academic freedom, the manipulation of historical narratives, and so on and so forth.

But yes, practically the same thing. Literally 1984!

  • Which one do you prefer, LGBTQIA+ or GSRM?
  • I agree that LGBT is less cumbersome, but inclusivity is such an important principle in this space that I think it is prudent to have an acronym which embodies this value. Regarding the "cishet is the norm" idea, I would disagree. Strictly speaking, it is accurate to say that LGBT are in the minority, but personally I'm not married to GSRM. If GSRD (Gender, Sexual and Romantic Diversities) or something is preferable, then I would not complain if that became the prominent shorthand. I just think LGBT is... Flawed. We could do better I think.

Which one do you prefer, LGBTQIA+ or GSRM?

    LGBTQIA+ \+Recognisable \+??? \-Cumbersome \-Some groups are relegated to the "+"

    GSRM \+Includes everyone \+Not cumbersome \-New \-Not familiar

OK I am biased but I do want to know why people still use the long one when we could be using the short one?

How big is gaming in linux?
  • I would try adding the game to Steam and using Proton that way

(In the Steam client) Games > Add a Non-Steam Game to My Library > (Add the executable) > Select the game in your library > Properties > Compatibility > Force the use of a specific Steam Play compatibility tool > Select your preferred Proton version

Granted, I've only tried this with one game, but it worked like magic. Your mileage may vary.

  • How big is gaming in linux?
  • You can check for yourself if the games you want to play work on Linux, just look up "(game name) ProtonDB" and look for a gold or higher for a good gaming experience. Subjectively, 90% of the games I've tried work well. CSGO, Overwatch 2 (through Lutris), Don't Starve, Deep Rock Galactic and Red Dead Redemption 2 are all games I know play well on Linux since I've tried them myself. It's incredible what Valve has done with Proton for game compatibility on Linux.

  • so, which Big Tech company do you think is going to shit the bed next and popularize its Fediverse/FOSS equivalent in the process?
  • I don't know about YouTube not being profitable, but even if they aren't, you'd be hard pressed to find a company better equipped to handle a money sink that Google. In 2022, they had a gross profit of 156 billion... I don't think they are panicking, scrambling to monetize YT at Alphabet HQ.

  • so, which Big Tech company do you think is going to shit the bed next and popularize its Fediverse/FOSS equivalent in the process?
  • I don't really see YouTube failing anytime soon. They have such a massive userbase, it's hard to imagine any other platform taking over anytime soon, regardless of shitty UX decisions. Creating a successful video platform like they have is an enormous challenge, the only reason they succeeded is because they were early.
