New Mlem release in TestFlight - 0.1.0(19)!
  • This update looks amazing! I love the profile tab and I’m really happy I’m able to see all the communities I’m subscribed to. Good job, y’all are doing great!

  • Reread the post, I think it addresses the issue. Sorry for my blindness. :')

  • Hey, this new version looks awesome! Y’all are doing great. I just noticed one issue; when I first opened up the app and saw the list of communities I’m subscribed to, it didn’t nearly show all of them. Maybe only 12 of them appear… is this a known bug?

  • Best Alternatives to Soap2day (Updated)
  • soap2day.id has been my go-to lately. Amazing, newly updated layout to organise your watchlist. I find that it tends to lag a bit more compared to lookmovie2.to, but on the other hand the quality and subtitles are almost always great.

  • how many of you have genuinely ditched reddit?
  • I’m totally done with Reddit, but that doesn’t mean I won’t miss it. I know Reddit can harbour a bunch of chronically online people, but nearly every interaction I had on there was wholesome. I miss the niche communities and the sense of belonging. I won’t ever go back though, primarily because of the constant ads, but also because the CEO has shown what kind of attitude he’s planning to drive Reddit forward with. I hope as time goes on, Lemmy will continue to grow, sparking intellectual and helpful posts and communities.

  • Life after mainstream social media
  • I’m glad you feel better here.

I only have Instagram as a form of social media, though I don’t post anything there. It definitely tears at my self-esteem at times, but I haven’t the heart to delete it because I consume other healthy content there. Only got FB to use Messenger with my parents. I don’t get all this social media hype, I guess; TikTok, Snapchat, etc… not my thing.

I like Lemmy. Like some others said, conversations feel more organic and refreshing. The website is pretty ok, I like the new icons here on Beehaw. I’m looking forward for more niche communities to grow, especially those catered towards specific shows or movies. I think I’ll grow to like this site even more as time progresses, honestly.

  • Made Lemmy waaaay more tolerable to read with Stylebot and some custom CSS!
  • This is amazing! Thank you for making this.

  • Is anyone else getting tired about the UI/UX craze where everything needs to be designed like it's meant for braindead users?
  • I get where you're coming from in terms of attracting quality users. I think the devs definitely should prioritise fixing bugs and crashes over graphic design (which I'm sure they do). At the same time I think we need a satisfying design that is unique to Lemmy, in order to enjoy scrolling through feeds and communities.

  • iOS users - what features do you want to see on Mlem?
  • I can't speak for the developers, but like any app I presume they have to get the crash/bug issues under control as well as add more features to the surface before launching the actual app. The influx of new users is probably overwhelming right now. I'm hopeful they'll release a smooth app within a month, or two, or three... by using Testflight, any beta user can send feedback, which would likely hurry up the development.

  • iOS users - what features do you want to see on Mlem?
  • First you install the app Testflight on App Store (instructions here https://testflight.apple.com/join/xQfmkJhc). Then click on the Apple icon over here (https://join-lemmy.org/apps) to open it in Testflight and install it.

  • iOS users - what features do you want to see on Mlem?
  • Yup, I’m also heavy on the customisation aspect. Would be fun with custom icons like you said (the dev said they would implement community-submitted icons in the future), as well as in-app themes like Reddit/Apollo had.

  • Welcome reddit refugees!
  • I like it so far. Finding communities is a bit difficult though, but I hope more niche communities will be made once more people join. Threads that aren't related to Reddit/Lemmy dev. are a bit slow, but that's to be expected since Lemmy is still growing. All in all I'm feeling quite optimistic and I really like scrolling through my feed in general.

  • How will lemmy sustain itself?
  • I second this. Just donated $10 and this probably won’t be my last time donating either. I have hopes for Lemmy and I’m sure many people care about its development enough to donate.

  • iOS users - what features do you want to see on Mlem?
  • Definitely agree with this. I had joined so many subreddits on Apollo thanks to the way it advertised them. Here’s to hoping Lemmy devs will make it easier to discover new communities!

  • iOS users - what features do you want to see on Mlem?

I know the developers are working hard and I'm sure they'll be coming with Mlem updates. I hope to see a notification centre being added, as well as the posts being collapsed instead of full-length. Do you wish for an Apollo type of design, or similar?

Edit: just a heads-up, I am not in any way affiliated with LemmyNet nor its devs. You can also voice your suggestions via Testflight by beta-using Mlem.

Do your part, try not to lurk!
  • Excited to be here y'all.

  • Lemmy.ml and beehaw.org getting hammered with traffic because of spez ama
  • I was scared my account got shut down or something, I’m relieved to hear it’s just a lot of traffic.

  • a more formal beehaw introduction thread
  • I’m late to the party but I thought I could join and introduce myself as well.

Hello, I’m user geon and I’m 17 years old. I enjoy watching movies and shows, and I recently finished binging American Horror Story. My favourite actors at the moment are Mads Mikkelsen, Charles Boyer, Jack Nicholson, and Javier Bardem. My favourite movies of all time are The Shawshank Redemption, The Pianist, and Gaslight (1944). I enjoy old films as well, typically those from the 30s-40s. My watchlist at the moment is… incredibly long, but I hope to finish some movies this summer.

I plan on studying programming (will study c# next semester, maybe Python next year), and hopefully get a job within data/IT. I want to become a digital nomad and travel the world when I get older… I want to visit Svalbard and Siberia the most right now. My favourite animal is the capybara. I listen to a plethora of artists and groups, ranging from classical music to thrash metal. I like music from the late 2000s/early 2010s since those years are nostalgic to me. I have a thing for 70s-80s music right now though.

I used to be incredibly immersed in politics and the study of political ideologies. I still find it interesting, and I also enjoy speaking to people whose opinions differ from mine… I like getting new perspectives. I also enjoy philosophical discussions, even though I’m already quite secure in my viewpoints.

Sorry for the ramble… I realise I’m on the younger side of Lemmy users but I hope to engage in meaningful discussions on here with y’all. I’m happy to be here. (:

  • How has ur lemmy experience been so far?
  • Thank you, I appreciate the geography analogies. I understand it more now!

  • How has ur lemmy experience been so far?
  • so far it’s pretty ok and i’m quite hopeful for its future. the layout reminds me of reddit so it’s not particularly confusing to use… like someone else said, i hope the customisation improves (especially profile customisation, i can’t seem to upload an avatar). i’m a bit confused about the different servers though (what’s the difference between beehaw/lemmy/shitjustworks/etc? will i be able to access all of them if i signed up at beehaw?…) i’m not very tech savvy so perhaps somebody could eli5. i’m hopeful though!
