While at university I worked for a small company and Budwieser was one of our clients. I would drop in occasionally to the brewery, and it always smelled like chundered beer.

Exactly this. I like to know when someone is habitually being a clown so I can remove them from my life.
Owning your own media gives it value, rather than it being a convenient commodity at a click. And it's something Big Music Corp. cannot take from you once it's yours. It's yours forever.
Edit. I'll add to that that when you own the media you can then convert it to whichever new device/format/quality is trending on the day.
I don't see myself leaving Lemmy anytime soon. It's like being in an exclusive club. You don't want go to back to the that filthy club where the bouncers are pricks.

It's been an amazing few days reading so many posts without a shred of toxicity in them. I'm sure it won't always be a cake walk, but for the last couple of days I just feel... healthier mentally.
Seems the writing's on the wall for Mr. Huffman. They'll remove him and change nothing, and Reddit will die. Fingers crossed anyway.
