And generally the consensus is that those terms should be depreciated. I know I make a point of renaming my default branch in git to main. The master/slave is harder to come up with an analagous term, but even main/sub would be easy enough to understand.
It's not a huge deal, and I think it's kind of funny that we use that term to lord over the console peons. But also thinking about it, isn't it just that? We can afford video cards that cost more than your console and a whole PC to go with it? In that sense, it is punching down and saying we are better because we can afford a more expensive system, right? Gets a little less funny.

The pain of compiling it on and old fanless something. Literally 30 hours later. But it did run mythtv... You kids got no idea the pains of compiling crappy capture card manufacturer's drivers into a custom kernel. We had to hack device ids into the kernel source to get video, now you guys just plug it in, dag gummit.

Just raising it helps some, but in general any newer laptop draws air from below and exhausts it from the sides so a cooler on the bottom doesn't do a lot for the laptop.
The exception is if you are resting it on a soft surface that could block vents, like your f-ing lap! In that case any of those coolers will make a big difference in both your comfort and the laptop. On a good hard surface that will make very little difference unless your laptop vents are clogged up as others have said.

It's actually more of the problem. They can pay wait staff 2.13 an hour, but they cannot make them pack up take out orders for that. So it literally does cost them more to do take out.

100% on check valves; technically each fan has to have it's own vent per code. Decent fans have a check in them but better safe than sorry. I'd put a separate exhaust unless it's really hard to get to.
+1 on humidity sensors but they can make wiring more complicated especially if you have a light as well.
I love Panasonic's. Not cheap but humidity sensor, variable cfm and quiet.
Noisy fans make you feel better but all that higher pitched exhaust fan noise stays in the room to make you feel better but trust me the bass noise comes through outside!
