Saw "Megalopolis" tonight (no spoilers):
  • I see. Still don't really see why this was part of the movie but at least it wasn't just made out of thin air. For context the 80s was 2 decades before I was born. I also only really know of the olsen twins as Elizabeth olsens siblings XD.

  • "Skip ad's" YouTube and "Skip Intro" on Netflix take the same amount of effort but I only hate the former.
  • Videos haven't had a single ad in years. It's always multiples bunched together and inconsistent as to whether you can skip or have to wait it out. Shows only ever have one opening (sometimes an ending as well) and their less predatory.

  • I actually didn't dislike it that much, but I think the visuals kinda fell apart near the end with a cg overload that diminishes some of the appeal of the movie. I don't think that part will ever age well. I also think some concepts didn't really have any significance and couldn't follow what the point of them was. Time control for example. The megalon prosthetic recovery. Etc. I think FFC had a vision and he wanted to produce it no ifs, ands or buts. That probably had as detrimental an impact as positive. There are some points where someone just telling him to tone it down could've done the movie some good. I did like the allusions to Rome, as a great republic (and later empire) that collapsed and how modern America resembles that with decadence and corruption. That vestal virgin sh*t was creepy as hell tho and I have no idea what the point of it was as it was basically forgotten 10 minutes later.

  • What is the basis of consistently here. Take2 broke Linux support for bioshock infinite a couple years back and valve refused my refund request. IME they have not done so. If they are for GTAV that's great. Maybe they only started doing this after the steamdeck came out but really they should have protections in the TOS to safeguard consumer purchases.

  • But in the end you get more feature for a higher price. In this case it's the same app for different prices depending on time frame... not to mention the app has no purpose beyond finding a wallpaper so it only really has 1 feature.

  • I legitimately avoided rockstar for years because they force you to use their store even when you buy on steam. I still haven't played rdr2, despite critical acclaim. I finally caved and got GTAV on sale cause I realised none of this shit works. Consumers using purchasing power to enforce standards is a losing battle. The storefronts or legislators need to enforce this shit. I think it should be valve. They have the market position and userbase to actually succeed or at the very least convince publishers to not break shit that was already working fine.

  • I still blame valve a lot for this. Their TOS offer us no protection. Publishers should not be able to retroactively lock down a game. Diminishing the game performance or adding unwanted DRM after purchase should be a refundable offense. People choose whether or not to buy games based on properties like these.

  • It costs $49.99 per year (or $11.99 per month)

Why in the hell does the monthly price end with you paying 280% more than the yearly. That is such an absurd discount I don't even know why someone would pay at all for this app but more so I want to understand where the price justification is and who came up with this plan.

To be clear I support artists and more than welcome a platform for them to share and sell art if they wish... I don't get why it needs to be a subscription service and I don't see how such inflated charges are going to help artists as it'll just discourage large numbers of people wanting to support them.

  • How serious are you guys when you talk about punching nazis?
  • This line of reasoning kind of falls apart when you deal with someone that doesn't act on good faith. For example you can pioneer democracy and the will of the people and then let 10% of radical people use propaganda to brainwash 41% of normal people to take over the government and then basically breakapart the foundations of democracy and people's rights. The end result is a democratic path to the end of democracy and a worse situation for everyone involved. There's a reason people say you can't be tolerant of anti-tolerance.

  • Movie Discussion - Alien Romulus

Hi folks, first time poster so let me know if this kinda post belongs anywhere else. Just saw alien romulus and wanted to see others thoughts on the movie :-).

Personally the visuals were great and the xenomorph itself terrifying but I didn't care much for the story and the characters seemed a little 2dimensional. I also think it drifted a little away from the fear factor to shock. I'd say 6/10. Enjoyable watch but nothing special.

How much do you pay for home contents insurance

    Hi folks,

I've been living in London for about 3 years now but didn't own much so never bothered to get contents insurance. As I'm steadily acrruing things I thought it'd be worth getting some sort of cover. I looked around on some price comparison sites and also reviews here and there. I'm getting anywhere from £60 to £500, although LV offering £250 is quite appealing and I've heard lots of good reviews. How much are you folks paying for contents insurance? What has your experience been with your providers and making claims? Any insight would be nice.
