Its been one day without Reddit
  • It's been one day without Reddit.......... I can feel my hands shaking, my body can't help but shake...... I impulsively type "Reddit.com" into my browser(Chrome, of course!) as soon as I open it; A tear rolls down my eye, as I realize my mistake. "No! I can't go there anymore! They...... They aren't wholesome anymore!". I angrily closed Chrome, and click onto the Microsoft news feed built into my Windows 11 computer. Seeing the Microsoft logo calms me. It's been hard without Reddit, but I'll manage. As soon as my echo-chambers are brought to Lemmy, I'll be okay! I'll be safe! I won't have to deal with scary opinions anymore!

  • So how long until the Fediverse is monetized?
  • As soon as Lemmy instances are unsustainable out of pure interest for the concept of the Fediverse. I doubt there will be subscriptions, first it'll be donations, and then some instances may have ads. It's an inevitable that both will happen (either on the same instance, or some instances opting for donations to stay up, and others opting for ads to stay up). No one can run the servers necessary for this platform out of pure charity; the bill for the Fediverse is going to be due someday, and it has to be paid.

  • Moon over red land by Kala Nemi
  • AI art has ruined this style of art for me. Before AI art, I'd see something like this and think it's incredibly cool. Now I look at it and just see another generic art piece, capable of being created in 5 seconds with specific enough prompts.

  • What's the point of signing up on instances?
  • It's for ones that lock themselves off from other instances (look at how beehaw is, for example). Not every community is meant for everyone online. Communities can be obscure, and gatekeep people, if they really want; that's the point of Lemmy, in my opinion. You do what you wish with it

  • Ron DeSantis the "worst candidate I've ever seen"—Former GOP strategist
  • Aren't Ron DeSantis' goals in line with the exact opposite of Fascism? He's attempting to cut down the size of the government, and basically prevent most government intervention in education (by eliminating it as any sort of federal agency, albeit I suspect there'd still be some "anti-woke" education bills). You can say his views are in line with hate speech, but equating it to any sort of Fascism is just plain wrong.

  • Oregon becomes the latest state to put ranked choice voting on the ballot
  • It'll be quite the sight to see, if this ever becomes a nation-wide/every state thing. I can imagine a completely different political landscape in 30 years, where Libertarians and Socialists hold office in government. Hopefully better democracy is better for people, and it'll make the election votes spread into the strangest pie-chart, in the best way possible.

  • Anyone else notice that short videos are making their attention span worse?
  • The issue is the lack of long-form content's ability to interest you. Nobody hates watching long videos now, it's just that it's far harder to find interesting content on Youtube than it is to simply scroll on tiktok, watch a video for 10 seconds, like it, and then get recommended videos alike that one you just liked.
