YSK: A car takes uses about seven seconds worth of fuel to start up. If you are going to idle for a period of time longer than that, you'll save fuel by turning your engine off.
  • It must not get very hot there. I cannot imagine turning my car off for a freight train or a draw bridge in the middle of summer. 36 C and high humidity and direct sunlight....no thank you. I've had cars without A/C in the past, now that I have A/C I would never willingly turn my car off if I have to be stuck in it in that weather.
