So that's it r/newzealand?
  • An alternative location for community during blackout is definitely what was missing this time. Mods need to set up and flag the alternative location in fediverse or otherwise) so users and content posters know where to go. This will also place the only real pressure that Reddit will feel - existential threat of a viable alternative ala Digg exodus.

  • Media watch had an interesting piece on this as well, with the take that the edits were likely less about propoganda and more just hamfisted and misguided efforts to try and insert "balance", without the understanding that Reuters has extremely strong editorial practices and don't need balancing.

While the RNZ scandel is a giant fuckup, I still trust RNZ as this is clearly a rogue staff member operating against the organisation, and RNZ are responding quickly, transparently and robustly.

    Someone call me a shill.

  • NZ farmers 'shouldn't pay for emissions if other countries aren't'
  • Two wrongs don't make a right; we need to look at our own house before we can start throwing stones. Everyone needs to be pulling in the same direction in this boat.

    Plus some other analogies.

The fact is we're running out of time on this and the ones who suffer will be future generations. Time to get our collective head out of our arse.

I recommend the book Ministry for the Future for a blow by blow account of what the geopolitics will be across the next 5 decades.

  • Cycling + Train in Auckland

thespinoff.co.nz Why is it so hard to combine biking with public transport in Auckland?

There are plenty of practical ways the city could make multi-modal transport more accessible – but have they all been consigned to the too-hard basket?

Why is it so hard to combine biking with public transport in Auckland?

I've used the southern train into work in Newmarket a few times, but have found most days it's cheaper taking my electric Leaf, so do that.

Traffic on the southern motorway yesterday was the definition of horrific (2 hrs to Takanini) and I realized I could bike home in that time. The plan is to train in the morning and bike home in the afternoon (down Gt Sth Rd almost the whole way according to Google Maps).

Has anyone had personal experience taking a bike on an Auckland train, especially during peak hours? Ive looked up the AT website and it says ok, subject to space...

    TRUMP UNDER ARREST
  • He took top secret documents when he left the white house. They don't belong to him, they're meant to be secured in the library of congress or something. Anyway, librarians tried to get them back, he said no, did a bunch of illegal shit (including flashing them around people he wanted to impress) so FBI got involved, raided his place, found more secret documents, special prosecutor was appointed who took ages really nailing the iron clad case together. Now he been arraigned in court facing federal charges. Because Trumps a dumb shit.

  • Kia ora Tāmaki Makaurau
  • I notice r/Auckland doesn't have any posts up about the blackout. I made a post and left a bunch of comments on the top few posts before i nuked my last, oldest account - I hope some of my neighbors join here so we can keep bitching about ol' Wayno

  • for the Reddit refugees, do you also feel a bit heartbroken?
  • Nah, this is exciting, like getting out of a mildly abusive relationship that all your friends and family knew was bad and had been trying to get you to leave the jerk for years and now you’re finally out the door. And you feel that spark in your chest, the stirring of anticipation you’ve not felt in a long time.

Get into it, you fucking hedonist
